Sony Ericsson T637
Average Ratings
Nice phone, but not the one for me
I got tried this phone as a replacement for my little Nokia. Overall, this is a very nice phone, but ultimately several small UI deficiencies added up to dissatisfaction for me. I returned the phone and will await the next generation.
Pros:
Very nice LCD screen. Bright, easy to see.
Animations are quick and smooth.
The screen fonts are small, but easy to read.
I had no troubles using the keypad, even though I have big hands. The handset has a nice weight and is easy to hold.
Bluetooth worked well with my Mac. I was able to sync up the to-do list and calendar, but wasn't brave enough to merge my phone books. Still, the Mac recognized the phone right away and I was able to browse through the files stored on it.
Camera takes decent, if small, pictures.
Reception seemed good. The speaker was a bit tinny, but plenty loud.
The two most important features for me: placing/receiving calls and writing/reading text messages were both easy to do. T9 text input was nicer than on my Nokia.
Cons:
Awful battery life. I did all the usual battery calibration things (discharge completely, let charge for 8+ hours) and still got only about 3 days of use out of it, despite only being on the phone for about 45 minutes.
The deal-killer for me was the idle mode. It displays only a clock. There was no way to know, without punching a button, if I had any missed calls or messages. The manual says the clock mode is to "conserve battery power," but what good is that if I have to wake the phone up every 10-15 minutes to see if anyone called? If the phone had just displayed some icons along with the clock, it would have been so much better.
Sometimes the menus were excessively technical. For example, there are separate menu items for managing contacts in the phone memory and on the SIM. The average person isn't going to know -- or care -- about the difference.
Adjusting the ringer volume is buried down in the menus. But I do like being able to turn on vibrate mode with just a couple keypresses.
BEST phone EVER!!
The Sony Ericsson T637 is the BEST phone I've ever owned/seen. It has great sound quality, great reception and I'm from Calgary using Rogers and the features are incredible. The camera is stunning. I mean, its no digital camera but this is among the best camera phones in the world. If you are looking to buy a phone, any kind of phone, consider the Sony Ericsson T637. Sony has once again produced a super phone & a great price too.
Definite BUY BUY BUY!!
SE t637 is a solid phone
I've owned this phone for about 2 months now and is by far my favorite phone. I've owned the Samsung SPH n400, a500, Nokia3600 and 3595 models. I'll start with the pros first:
-Bright, vibrant 65k TFT color screen
-size; fits perfectley in my watch pocket.
-Camera very sharp, very clear thx to the display resolution.
-Comes with a mirror on the back for self-portraits.
-Menu very easy to navigate learned with in 15 minutes playing with it, side keys easy to reach.
-Exceptional reception with Rogers Wireless GSM service.
-MMS a good alternative for keeping in touch.
-Phone has good style. Use the phone and self portraits and screensaver shots vertically and all other imaging horizontally, (looks like a real camera!).
CONS:
-Not too many good accesories available.
-WAP is actually pretty slow.
-I have a tendancy to push in the scroll key inwards sometimes when I'm scrolling and screws up my menu selection.
Thats about all, pretty slick phone for the price, 199.99 w/ a 2 year service agreement.
Enjoy.

AMAZINGLY DURABLE
I made reviews on the t327 as I wasn't sure of the model number, but I found the phone I owned which was this.
I dropped this an incredible amount of times, and one time to demonstrate the durability tossed this phone in water and it worked.
I tossed this phone through breakups, poured pop, water a lot of stuff ACCIDENTALLY on it, dropped it more, got it to where the joystick was missing, back was missing, camera didn't work, 8 key was missing, and decided it was time to retire it.
But it was incredibly, INCREDIBLY durable. After all the times I tossed it at walls, dropped it and did whatever to it, texted on it, called on it, it never opened up from all the wear (like came apart) it just had heavy damage.
I got this phone on the OLD AT&T, JEEZ before the new one, like in 2004 and it worked through 2007. That's three years of incredible phone. Most people said this phone was basic, yeah, it lacked some features such as an APP to go to FB or YouTube, but the browser could always launch you there (I never used the browser), had video and camera, and had a decent sound quality for ringtones and other sounds, voice memos.
From the day I got it until the day the joystick fell out, the battery was still in great working shape, and it had the same charge as when it came out.
When the G'Zone Type-V was first released, I didn't want to get it as I had this if I wanted to have a rugged phone. It worked just as one, without the tinny sound quality and bumper up front. Well then the Boulder came out, and let me tell you that phone was basically a large update to both Type-S and V, and it was amazing.
Pretty steller for the time.
The phone was one of the first U.S. phones to incorperate Bluetooth, Color Display, and Color Camera. I miss this phone and thought it was very advanced for the time.
ok?
It was an ok phone.
I think sony had their priorities mixed up though. Who wants a bluetooth phone without the ability to have mp3 tones????
The polyphonic tones sucked, no speakerphone.....oh, and maybe this was MY fault, but i have a big "black hole" in my screen. Its taking up about 25% of my screen.
The phone looks good though. Bluetooth worked great. Its just not my kinda phone - i'm more of the bulky clam shell type guy. I weigh 320lbs, can't be seen with a ***** phone like that.
But overall, good phone - worth the money. Buy it pretty cheap off ebay.
Ed. note: Removed foul language
This was the "turning point" phone for SE
This was the first phone from Sony Ericsson that really showed what they could do, prior to the 637 they frequently had software and RF issues. Everything since (including the 637 through the W810) has been the best phone in its price range in terms of features, reception, and overall quality.
Do Not Buy!!!
I HATE this phone!!!! I bought this phone almost 2 yrs ago and I have no idea why I stayed with it this long.
This is my 1st reviews so I'll try and list the pros and cons.
Pros:
decent size screen.
picture id
ringer id
Cons:
Horrible reception (Massachusetts)I have never had a conversation which has not dropped atleast a couple of times.
No mp3 ringtones
You can very easily press the internet connector button and get charged or dial someone if you do not have the phone locked at all times.
I drive a lot for work and use atleast 900 to a 1000 mins a month. My cell phone is my primary phone. I need something more reliable.
bad phone
i got this phone because i thought it was a good phone, boy was i wrong. i bought this phone not long and the buttons dont work, the 4 and 6 just dont work so i can not dial anyone or text. i keep it in my front pocket with the buttons on the inside and if that is all it takes to mess up the connection give me a break also the joystick only works if you press up so i spend most of my time going up. what a piece of junk and i paid almost $200.00 i think they should have junked this one......................i could have got a razr!
Best Phone Ever Owned
Out of the six phones that I've ever owned, this phone is by far, the best phone I will probably ever own. Between myself and others dropping it on the ground everywhere, it is still going strong. The screen is amazing (not too small), the jukebox is great for those enjoy making their own music, even the pictures that come with it are better than anything else I've seen. The sound quality is amazing, you hear everything. The camera is OK, but you can fix that by making the screen larger or smaller. Occasionally it freezes up (happened before it was dropped). This is the longest time I have ever stayed with one phone (2 yrs).
Pros
Sound, IR, Screen size,
Color quality
Cons
Camera could use more pixels
Freezes occasionally
