Motorola A780
Average Ratings
Great and versatile phone
I'm using this smartphone with Telcel provider in Mexico, and these are my experiences about it:
PRO:
-Great sound quality, the calls are crystal clear.
-I bought a 512 MB transflash card for this phone, and works flawlessly as a USB handy drive.
-The included apps work just fine, without any major hiccups.
CON:
-A bit bulkier for today's standards.
-Is not supported by major providers, so you'll have to configure it yourself.
-There is lot of apps that can run on this phone, although a bit of searching/testing would be necessary to find them.
For me, the most useful app I found is ReadManiac, a free ebook reader to read books in PilotDoc(AportisDoc), TealDoc and HandStory PDB formats. It has lot of features, including the ability to choose fonts and sizes! Downloaded from http://www.deep-shadows.com/hax/ReadManiac/index.htm
I also downloaded Opera Mini, tobitris, Sudoku spot, Pocketweb, SmartShopper and a scientific calculator, all working fine here.
This site seems to have a lot of apps for the E680 (hence, the A780) but I hadn't tested a lot of them.

too soon to give up hope...maybe??
so far, i've got it making and receiving calls, but that's about it.
1. won't recognize blth jabra hdst-which does work with my v3.
2. cannot access the password function in the profiles section, which will not allow me to web browse. have cingular service, but have not experienced any call problems. make sure you update cingular with your new IMEI number, so the phone gets updates.
also would like to say thank you to the guys and gals in product development at cingular, for they have gotten me further than any script reader at motorola.
The Best Phone Down South
I know I'm late but I just got my hands on this phone and I must say I'm impressed. The New phones such as the t809 from T-Mobile can't touch this phone the best thing about it I bought it from someones ex-girlfriend that didn't know what to do with it. $50.
Hmmm its quite okay
COns
1. an sms with more than 160 character that saved on the phone memory cant be transferd/ copy to sim card
2. when a780 hangs, which is happen quite often, i have to turn off the phone to make it start again, but it caused the sms on the simcard lost or sometimes its still there but transform into blank meesage from a year 1965
motorola didnt create a data suite for a780 or other phones like siemens data suite can help to transfer our sms that was saved in the mobile phone and sim card to the computer easily
4. additional application for your linux mobile as in for e680 or a780 is hard to get
5. there was no color scheme editor for a780 like motorola have for e680
Pro's
the shape of the phone
and almost all the advantage the show you on their site
"A780" MOTOROLA'S BEST
I just got my Motorola A780 and I bought it online. Compare to MPX220, A780 is the best. Linux OS for this phone is better than Windows.
The best phone available (for my needs anyway)
If you like text entry, good pim management, a decent camera, expandable memory, and all able to fit in your pocket, this is a good choice.
It has been easy for me to use.
The a780 seems to need one to have the exact same number in your phonebook as the person calling you or else it does not identify them.
Everything else works wonderfully.
For the price buy a different phone.
Iâve had this phone now for a three months and as much as I would like to give it a stellar review I canât. Itâs a mediocre phone at the best and at the worst itâs a complete piece of crap. While feature packed most of the features donât work well or are overly complex to get to.
In the three months I have had it itâs locked up on me 6 times. The phone does a remarkable job of keeping a majority of your user settings and all of the address book entries when this occurs.
One of the worst âfeaturesâ of this phone is the battery meter. It runs in increments of 40 percent so the phone goes from 100% charge to 60% to 20% to off. Whatâs worse is the fact that the phone will display 100% for 2 or 3 days of normal use, then 60% for about 3 hours, then 20% for about 10 minutes and then it shuts off with little or no warning.
The interface is very slow and clumsy. For text messaging the stylus and the touch screen keyboard is very nice. The hand writing recognition is passable but Palm did better way back with the Palm IV.
The pros of this phone are:
⢠Nice size. Itâs rather large by todayâs standards
⢠Attractive style
⢠Lots of features
⢠Works either opened or closed
⢠Great search feature for names
The cons (that I havenât mentioned above) are:
⢠Voice recognition software has to be loaded every time you want to use it
⢠Redial a number is a huge pain
⢠The buttons on the front of the phone donât work unless the flip is closed.
⢠Speaker phone volume is too quiet to be of much use
⢠No ring and vibrate at the same time which sucks as the phoneâs ringer is useless in loud environments.
⢠Few if any applications can be found and no hint as to how to install them. (not hard but should be in the manual.)
⢠Lame synch software that only works with Outlook or Outlook Express
In the end, this phone isnât a terribly useful package. As a simple phone itâs ok. As a smart phone itâs nearly pointless. For the cost a much better smart phone can be had.
Mixed feeling but definitly not happy!
I bought this phone at a local Korean cell phone store. I payed $799 without activation, which I greatly regret. With all the CONs of this phone, I shouldn't need to pay more than $300. There are Pros like loudness of speaker phone, clarity of pictures and videos but other phones that are cheaper will do just fine. But for $800 I would expect much less CONs such as HORRIBLE Bluetooth: keeps on dropping the signal, interfering with my wireless lan, drains the battery, and takes forever to connect to my usb 2.0 bluetooth adapter. HORRIBLE Caller ID: can barely recognize 50% of my calls. HORRIBLE Reception: since this phone is unlocked, I tried with different sim cards, actually they are all fine EXCEPT for Cingular. Cingular SUCKS! I'm from the region: Zip Code 90210. Basically I'm not happy with this phone.
