Samsung SGH-D500
Average Ratings
Very good phone
This phone meets and exceeds expectations on all levels.
There are few things that i was looking for, andc thought that this phone would have but didnt.
-custom tone for messages (an .mp3)
-fullscreen wallpaper
-better battery life
-louder speaker
Other than that this phone is great. It's surprising to know how rugged this phone is despite it's look. I have had this phone for about a year and half and the camera has just started to act up.
If you're a T-mobile customer that uses T-zones, this is not the phone because you can't download anything, and most apps wont load up because the D500 isn't supported by T-mobile.
Samsung D500 Is Okay!
Hey, I'm a long time Samsung user, this is my 4th samsung phone. I've had the d500 for 11 months. I paid $560.00 when this phone first came out. I'm finally writing a review. Here goes!
Pros:
96MB of memory
1.3 mega-pixel camera
Loud
Good sound quality
Has quiet mode/vibrate button (hold # key for 3 sec)
Cons:
No memory card slot
Cant navigate your whole menu, while on phone
Poor picture quality in low lighting
Can't assign mp3's to message tones
Can't see time while on phone (only in menu's while on phone)
Very poor battery life (3 hr of talk time/12-14 of standby with limit use)
Caller id picture is only alittle image when call comes in
This phone gets a 3.0 out of 5.0
Best slider phone so far
very simple. D500 is the best phone in slider phones. i believe better than D600 WHICH I JUST PURCHASED LAST WEEK. I GAVE MY D500 TO MY WIFE, WHICH I STILL MISS IT DEARLY :)
I SEEN AND TRIED T809 - D500 AND D 600.
D500 IS THE BEST. LOVE THE ONE TOUCH SLIDER ACTION .
I HAD THE D500 FOR 6 MONTHS AND THERE IS NO PROBLEM OR CONS WITH IT. I GAVE THIS PHONE 4 STARTS. I ONLY WISHED IT WAS QUAD BAND.
WHICH T-MOBILE WILL START IN 2006.
Samsung D500
This is a BEAUTIFUL phone. I haven't had any problems so far with it except for the fact that the battery life isn't too great. I barely talk on the phone and it lasts a little over a day! Other than that, it is a cute, classy little phone with a gorgeous screen.
D500 for T-Mobile
I've had the D500 for about 4 months. It's pretty cool. I got it from an ex T-Mobile employee who already unlocked it and got customer care to set up the text messages and t-zones and stuff.
First off, I'll blast it for the cons:
]]] It's a little small. I'm 5' 10", 200 lbs, and this thing looks tiny
]]] The bluetooth disconnects from the headset (Moto HS 820) every once in a while.
]]] Not the greatest reception. I get one-three more bars with my Nokia 6600 depending on the area.
]]] If I try to set the camera to the highest quality possible, there is a three second pause between pressing the button and when the picture is actually taken.
Now the pros:
[[[ Video is off the hook! A full hour? SICK! And with options like LED flash and shooting effects, it keeps me very entertained. I recorded a full episode of Family Guy by just lying it on my table (even paused for the commercials!)
[[[ The web browser goes to almost all web sites (minus java). It's almost a better browser then the SideKickII, plus I dont pay all that money, I just have the 4.99 t-zones.
[[[ The screen is beautiful. Clear and bright. There are two dope wallpapers that show this, one with bouncing balls and the other with rolling blocks.
[[[ MP3 player is dope. Pretty clean sound. I just wish it was a little louder. Even with the speaker piece, it's just not loud enough.
Overall a pretty dope phone. Not THE dopest, but very few phones top it. And for $300, the ones that do beat it are so much more that this one is way worth it. Pretty happy, but still looking to get something better (maybe that RAZRberry Q smartphone or that Hurricane.
SGH-D500 bluetooth not so good
I like the D500, except for the BT - will not work correctly with my sony BT h/s (headset). dosen't have auto-answer and if not already connected, will ask on phone if it should connect - not exactly handsfree (legal requirement in UK cars) - my old T68i had auto-connect.
If connected before call, will ring in h/s and button on h/s will answer call, but then need to hang up with phone - again not handsfree.
Once you've done that, the phone appears to loose contact with h/s, but won't let you disconnect and will not connect again (fails both ways). Requires you turn D500 off to clear this.
Impressive
I have had the phone for about a week, so far i have found it very good. Music player, java games (i.e freekick game) moving wallpapers!!!. However i have only rated it 4/5 because the 1.3 mega pixel camera and camcorder isnt quite what i expected. My last phone which is only 1 mega pixel, i think that quality of pictures are much sharper/better on that. Aswell as the digital zoom not being the same as on the e700 which is over 12months old??? Also the phone is so new i can not download any more games as yet.
Apart from this i have found the phone great, especially the slide answering part. Very cool!!!
Just right for me
I was a flip-phone fan, but sliders do it for me now. My wife's had a Kyocera for some time and I just waited for better features. My D500 was imported to the U.S. and works fine on Cingular and T-mobile.
Pros
Style (pretty easy to achieve with the dull phones in the US)
Bluetooth.
Good voice quality.
Decent camera.
Bluetooth.
MP3 and general audio quality
I use BT headset and car-kit from Moto
Cons
No USB cable or standard socket although USB advertised as a main feature.
Price... Whooof!
No belt clipped carry case.
Make sure it has a warranty
Love the phone...if it would work! I had it a month and a half, then the audio quit. No more ring tones, no MP3s. The vibrate feature still worked, but not the sound. It's been in the shop now for over a month. They tell me they're waiting on a part for it. I bought it in Bangkok, new, in the box. A friend tells me that he personally knows of four different people that have this phone and that the displays went on them. That sounds scary. So far the display on mine is beautiful, but it's got me nervous. I paid full price for this phone when it first came out, because I just had to have it, well...
