Kyocera 2255
Average Ratings
features sound great, but does it work?
1st cell (of my own) so not much personal comparisons. But I can explain how it works for me. Worked well for about a year of VERY light use. Like a lot of other reviews, screen problems: (it disappears, if you squeeze reeaaallly hard sometimes you can see part of the screen.) Really great blue back-light color. So bright, I have used it as a flashlight (seriously). Battery life is not what it says. It is a TRI-MODE phone, so it should be able to roam almost anywhere, should be able to pick up any signal, BUT the signal does not seem as strong as it should be. I can be somewhere fairly remote and see people talking on cells (I assume they have local companies) and my Kyocera will not roam on their signal.) However, it does seem to have a lot more range than a dual-band. Instead of paying a $35 deductible and getting the same phone, I am going to do the same thing another reviewer did: use an old Samsung SCH-8500. Until I can afford an upgrade.

Overall a decent phone. My service provider has always been decent to me in regards to customer service. However, as some of the other postings stated, I'm having problems with the display and the lint thing. To get the phone repaired, they'll send it to Kyocera. They were unable to tell how long this would take and I don't want to be stuck without a phone for too long. Be warned that Bell would charge a $25 fee for a loaner phone.
In regards to the phone:
Likes:
Blue back-lighting
Ring-tones
Voice dialing
the games especially brick attack
Dislikes:
The lint thing
Ringers not loud enough
Phone can't ring & vibe at same time (which sucks very noisy environments)
Calculator is a pain to use
If anybody from Bell Mobility reads this, please e-mail me your opinion on which phone you thinks is their best. I'm looking to buy in 3 to 4 months. pveldt@canada.com
It's been great for me!
Despite what some people hear are saying I have not had any trouble with my 2255 since I bought it in November 2001 for $70 at a Circuit City sale. It's been solid and so have the ones owned by my friends. No problems at all. The frequency of the display problem has been exaggerated a little. There have been several software upgrades that might fix some minor glitches. The latest version being JS1.0.15. Battery life is just average and needs to be charged at least every other day. The new 2345 model should be an overall improvement.
It Sucks People
I work at RadioShack as u can see by my user name. I sell at least 30 cellphones a month. We sold a good amount of 2255's and I can say the phone is a piece of crap. We have had SO MANY people come back with their screens not working and it's the dust and lint that get's inside of it. If you're out looking for a wireless phone, first of all, got to RadioShack, and second of all, DO NOT buy this phone. Even if it is free. You get what you pay for.
Phone Jacked
Help I have been phone jacked, this phone is a big piece of cow crap. The only things I like about this phone is the blue screen and the tip calculator. I have not been able to access my voice mail since I have had this phone. I am a photographer and I NEED TO GET MY CALLS! I should have stuck with my Samsung. I feel that sprint should recall this phone and give everybody that has one a different kind. I can't get reception in my house, and I have lint in the inside of my screen. How can I see my caller ID with lint in my screen.
Calling all Phone Jackees, we need to receive retribution.
You can bet this phone is history.
They received .5 points for everything I liked.

Not a great buy unless you want to look hip
The best thing only from this phone I've seen was the Blue LED. I went through two of these phones and each time something went wrong with it (LED went bad / Headphone jack would not work.) It had some nice software on there, although the Web browser was a bit choppy at times. The games had some appeal to them although I think the RPG one got to be a bit boring after awhile.
Kyocera get a big THUMBS DOWN!!
This phone has one cool feature, and that is the blue screen. Besides that, all other aspects of this phone are horrible. First and foremost is the fact that on the first day I had it a small piece of lint got underneath the screen. And ever since more has accumulated. It is IMPOSSIBLE to get out and completely takes away from the niceness of the phone. Did the brilliant people at Kyocera ever take this into consideration? Did it take too much thought to put a rubber seal on the inside to prevent this from happening? Probably the worst thing however is the fact that the signal strength is SOOOOO weak that I have 0 bars of signal in my house. With my old Samsung 3500 I had 4 (full). That just shows how poorly engineered this phone is. I'm going back to Samsung for I never had ANY problems with them. Samsung all the way!

I have had the phone for 2 weeks. I would rate the out going voice quality as good not great a little muffled. Incoming sounds great though. Battery life is not great approximately 90 min of talk time. 1xrtt and browser is good. but not awesome. I do enjoy using the phone and downloading screen savers and ring tones. I would consider this phone for the younger crowd. Not the power or sophisticated user.
Great looking, reliable phones! Cool features too
This is a ncie phone. I would still have bought it for $50 more.
