Samsung Wafer R510
Average Ratings
Definately needs some work!
Pros:
Good reception!
Thin!
Con:
If you have large fingers or hands like I do this phone is very hard to use for text messages and using the menus. I had a real hard time because the buttons are real small and close together. I didn't care for the sound of the ringers either!! Samsung needs to try this one again.
Great form factor, not so great features
I had to buy this phone simply because of the form factor. It is tiny and I love that about it. Mine does have the echo problem somewhat, but only when I hold the phone with my shoulder. It's really weird, I know. I have done the update that was supposed to fix the echo problem but there is still an echo. On my end, the phone is clear and the volume is great. The biggest problem I have with the phone is the lack of customizable options. Before this phone, I had a RAZR V3c and was able to customize menus, use my own ringtones via bluetooth and the like. I don't know if it is Alltel or Samsung but the fact that there is no bluetooth OBEX really sucks for me. I have yet to buy a data cable and hope that will work for ringtones. Also, the keypad is tiny. I have very small hands and texting is a bit more difficult even for me. To anyone considering this phone, I would suggest waiting until they get all the bugs out first.
Still still Echoes echoes
I can't add much beyond what's already been said; I'm just reporting that I bought mine last week (with assurance from rep that next software update would fix the echo), and returned it today (which the update over the weekend didn't). It would be a sweet phone, if they fixed the issue that cheeses the sound quality.
SAM WAFER
well i work for allter wireless and livei n texas ... i got this phone like 3 weeks ago ... and so far i haven't had so many difficulties with it ... only that when im talking at times i hear my echo or those who im speaking with say that they hear an echo of themselves ... so i have to call samsung for that ... i also don't like that i can't bluetooth music ... it sucks!! but i can buy ringtones and use them ... just that they're not as long as regular ring tones ... well dat's all for now ...
Returned after two days of use
While the slim design is attractive, I need a phone that works. As soon as I began using this phone people started complaining of an echo, yes I adjusted the volume all the way down which did not resolve the issue. I called Alltel's customer service line and the tech asked if I was calling from a pay phone! The only way to talk and have people understand me is by using the speaker phone.
Pros- Super-slim design, large screen, decent speaker phone
Cons- Poor reception (static/echo), camera resolution mediocer,
Not Too Great
The phone is great size and easy to carry around and fits great in pockets and purses. The bad thing is...no one can understand what you are saying. Any background noise distorts your voice and the person you call cannot hear you. Also, people who talk to you can hear themselves through the earpiece.
The phone also has little power to ring. Even on the loudest setting you will miss calls because you do not hear the ringer. The vibrate is pretty weak as well.
The low battery warning is all of about 3 minutes.
Good Phone, But PLEASE WAIT Until Samsung Gets Rid Of The ECHO FLAW!
Our Midwest family bought two Samsung R510 Wafer phones from Alltel. The phone has lots of nice features and is the thinnest cell phone I have ever used. Unfortunately, we had to return BOTH phones because BOTH phones experienced the same flaw.
Reception on the phone was very good. I could hear the person on the other end of the call just fine. At the other end of the conversation (to many different phone numbers), the person would complain about an echo problem (either constant or intermittently), particularly when they spoke to us. It was sooo annoying that we had to return the phones to Alltel. Its too bad because everything else about the phone was very good.
I agree with most of the positive reviews, but since we had TWO phones with the SAME problem, I would imagine that there is a design flaw with the software. If you get one with the echo problem, the phone is too annoying to use, despite all of the positive factors. My advice is to wait until Alltel/Samsung work this bug out of the phone.
I would have rated the Wafer as at least a 4.0, but not when it is (hopefully temporarily) unusable. Too bad, but we are getting a different phone from Alltel.
great phone
pros:
large screen. easy to use. better reception and longer battery life than my old phone (moto 262). xm radio. slim, fits in the watch pocket of my blue jeans. Charge lasts almost three days (I don't talk on the phone like a 13 year old girl, but my old phone would only last 8 hours on standby). Has a microSD chip slot for extra memory storage.
cons:
buttons are kind of small for my large fingers (I just gotta get used to the new phone). slot the charging cord plugs into is small, and the cover seems like it will eventually break off (because it is so small). cannot make personal voice recordings as ring, message or alert tones (unless I'm missing something). Didn't come with as many (or as good, in my opinion) ring tones as my old phone.
pretty good, bad reception
Pros
really thin
good screen
good camera
big keys
cons
bad reception
the directional keys are a big hard to press with the OK button popping out
i dont know about the battery life. i havent ran it completely dead yet,it hasnt been off the charger much.
