Wow Near Perfect

May 10, 2008 by jkDomino

Previous devices:
Blackberry 8700 (tmobile)

I consolidated my separate phone and blackberry to this one device.

Pros:
Phone - very good quality. Very clear and good volume I used the voive recorder to make my own ringtones for free!! Love that.

Email - productitvity gained by having access to ALL my email accounts (work and personal) in one place. Setup was super simple. I can keep up with all my email - clean out junk and spam as I go. Have to learn when to access and when to turn it off, to maintain personal life!!

Camera and Video
Good - not for professioanl quality, but for fun and immediate need perfect.

Media player
Great and clear quality. I get my work voice messages in my email, so now I can listen to that on the go!! Fantastic.

GPS
A previous review said GPS was disabled. On mine I was able to get google map which is a free dowload from the google website - access it from the blackberry and go to maps and more link. Location capability works. Make sure you update Optios/Adv settings/GPS/GPS data source=device gps, and gps services=location on.by default the gps services was off. Also has, but have not tried the Blackberry Maps included.

Size
Good - I wish could be smaller, I.e. I like the pearl, but I prefer the full qwerty keyboad, so have to live with the size!! But the size and feel are excellent for all the functionality I get.

Cons
Battery life short - using jivetalk for AIM drains the battery in less than a day!! Still experimenting: I.e. Turning off all LED indicators.

Overall, this is perfect for what I need - email, phone, map/navigation, music are my top priority needs.

Perfect score would be if battery life was 3-4 days, and a clamshell design (I heard clamshell expected end of this year for blackberry!! But I can't wait)

I just started using this phone last week and can I just say that I love it. I'll admit I was intimidated by all the bells and whistles of a blackberry but when Sprint decided to put them on sale for $49, I took a chance to learn something new. Everyday I seem to find something new with this phone and each time I get oh so excited. I even managed to set up my favorite people in my contact list with their own individual personlized ringer for incoming phone calls, all messagings & emails. Now I don't have to guess when it comes to whose sending me a message!

I have no cons about the phone and don't see myself ever returning to a regular cell phone ever. I have truly become a CRACKBERRY and I'm loving it.

This powerhouse phone does it all

Just switched to the Curve from the Blackberry Pearl, which really didn't work for me. I had issues with calls, which was a problem because I primarily used it as a cellphone. I've been on the Verizon network for 10 years, and never had issues; on the Pearl, calls were dropped frequently, even when I had a full signal, which was incredibly frustrating.

I also hated the Pearl's condensed keyboard. I rarely used BBM, and texted and emailed less frequently because it was such a pain to type. I wondered why I even owned a smartphone, since it was so frustrating to use.

When my Pearl went on the fritz (it lasted a mere 10 months), I decided to try out the Curve. SO glad I did. I love this phone. Texting and emailing is so much easier. Internet browsing is less frustrating because of the larger, clearer screen.

Perhaps most importantly, there is a noticeable difference in call quality: calls are much clearer and dropped less frequently. The volume control is also superior on the Curve.

Battery life is great, screen resolution is awesome, and overall, this is a great phone. I finally understand what all the Blackberry hype is about: this little phone can do it all.

Pros:
- Excellent call quality
- No issues with frequent dropped calls
- Full QWERTY keyboard is easy to use
- Bright, clear, crisp screen
- Excellent battery life
- Internet browsing is fast and simple (using the pre-installed Blackberry browser and Opera Mini)

Cons:
- Lack of device's internal memory (removable media card solved that problem)

Blackberry Newby

Before I decided to write a review on this phone, I thought it would be wise to wait until I had the phone a while. I got my phone in December 2008, so I have had it for 6 months now and feel like I cna offer a fair review.

I love this phone and depend on it for everything. I changed the settings on the front so I can see the next two events on my calendar. I love the fact I can hide icons (like my saved text messages, they are in a folder and I have it hidden so no one can access them). Texting on this is so much better than when I had my Razar!

There is only one thing I dont like about this phone...if a text is coming in or going out, your calls go directly into your voice mail. I had a Razar before and I never had that proble. Same thing with e-mail, when e-mail is coming in, incoming calls go directly to your voice mail. Other than this, it's a great phone and I am ready for the next Blackberry US Cellular has in store forme to purchase.

Best Phone I have Used 4.75%

Jun 17, 2008 by mike068

Ok I have had my Blackberry Curve8330 (Crackberry) activated in the Sprint network with (sprint speed) for about 6 - 8 weeks now. This is the best phone I have used so far. So no I am not one of those people that takes my new phone out of the box turn it on and think I know enough information to rights a review. So here it is this phone is a excellent choice from the average and power user and shows its true potential in the messaging area no mater what type email, instant, text or pin are excellent although MMS messaging is hard to work around because MMS is not a offered amenity through Sprint at this time but it is being developed. With Blackberry and Java support you can get all kinds of different apps that do most anything.

The only drawback to this phone is the 1000mah battery, for a power user you will find this insufficient. I have found 2 size extended life battery’s a 1500mah that you do not need to replace the battery cover and a 2600mah bat that normally comes with a oversized battery cover if its a Seidio I find this one better than the original cover for design and cosmetic reasons.

Must have apps – A smart email viewer of some type, Call Screener of some type & Soft Reset app of some type. I used to be stuck on sprint navigation for maps but the preloaded bb-maps works very nicely. Also you may want to upgrade your media card to at least 4 gb

CON”S
Battery (to small)
The need for a call screening app
The need for a email add-on app
The need for a built in reboot option

I give this phone a 4.75 because it like all phones it has room for improvement like the need to run 3rd party apps but all in all it is an awesome phone.

Hate to Admit-I love It

I give this phone a 4.0 because I just bought it a week ago and I am still learning and messing around (regardless of it being idiot-proof). My previous devices have included sidekick II (mister cartoon lim edt), sidekick ID, sidekick III, htc dash, and htc wing. I have always been with TMobile but currently I am with Verizon (which was not my particular choice). Due to financial changes and rumors that T-Mobile sucks, I was forced upon a family plan with Verizon. I picked this phone at last minute. I am so not regretting my decision at this point.
I love this phone and possibly this service. It is very closely related to windows mobile without getting stuck or frozen. I still have to play with the camera. I only use my phones for mass texting, browsing, calendar, and email applications. Presently, I have nothing to really complain about. I do agree that the trackball is "grainy" but if you fix the settings, you should be ok. The browser is currently faster than my own pc (due to an non-updated pc). Northeast NJ is great for Verizon and T-Mobile, but please don't forget that it also depends on what type of phone you have.

Almost Perfect

After giving up my 8830 in favor of the smaller, lighter Curve I was disappointed to see that you cannot text pics. I bought this phone for that purpose alone. It is lighter and smaller than the 8830 but the trackball feels cheap and is more imprecise than that of the 8830 and the only way to send photos is to e-mail or Facebook them. The case is cheaply made and is easily dinged and scratched so I would suggest getting a hard cover for it hence it will look like crap with normal use in a week. Other than that the thing is great.

Sprint Blackberry 8330 Best phone i've owned yet!

May 26, 2008 by mystica

Having previously had an LG LX-550 for the past 2 years, I was eager to upgrade.

While waiting for the Sprint store in my area to get more in stock, I took a Pearl for a week, which I got the hang of using the Blackberry OS with. I hated SureType (as I knew I would) which is what made me stick it out for the Curve. Had I liked SureType, I may not have switched- the Sprint Pearl was VERY nice and styled.

The 8130 pearl does have 2 things over the Curve: Better speakers (yes the Pearl has a Bass and a Treble speaker! VERY good sound) and the Pearl also has an externally accessible MicroSD slot. The Curve has it -under the battery-.

These 2 minor issues aside, the 8330 Curve is a VERY solid performer. With built in ability to multitask a few Java applets like Opera Mini, along with MP3 playback from the MicroSD card and even IM and BB Messenger, to the Facebook application, you can be as (un)productive as you are normally in front of a computer!

In all seriousness, I love the multitasking ability during the long commute on a bus and light rail train I have every day. I can keep in contact with all my friends, watch videos, listen to mp3s via the 3.5mm headphone jack (use ANY headphones you like) and browse the web. All from a hand-held device.

Add to this the great Bluetooth (Headset and fast, lag-free A2DP Stereo Music streaming) the 2.0 megapixel camera, and built-in 3GPP2 streaming support, and the Curve is also a multimedia powerhouse.

Who said blackberries were just for corporate email?

The full QWERTY keyboard allows for very simple and quick text message/IM/IRC input, without having to use shorthand (which gets very annoying) or having to mess with multiple T9 or SureType word matches. The auto sentence-capitalization feature is somewhat bothersome if you don't want the first letter of what you type to be Capitalized.

Best of all, you get all these features all without any of the windows mobile LAG.

I'm a crackberry-head now for life!

Sprint BlackBerry Curve...

May 24, 2008 by JeffdaBeat

I received the BlackBerry Pearl a few months ago and became one of those people who said they would never use anything else. The Pearl was indeed an awesome phone, but at the same time it had a few flaws. I felt like with the small size, the phone ran a little slower than it should. Although I got used to the SureType after only three days, it still wasn't the full keyboard that I needed.

Enter the Curve.

I purchased the Curve on my Sprint employee line and I have to say, it is one of the best devices I've used in a long time.

First, the form factor of it is just sexy. Like the Pearl, it is sleek and smooth. Add the titanium color to the phone and the thing just makes anyone carrying it look awesome. The keys, while smaller than the Pearl, are easy to get used to. I do find the application key and the back key kind of hard to get used to because they dip into the phone.

The lag that I experienced in the Pearl is non-existent in the Curve. I feel like spacing all those parts out in a bigger container helped a lot with that. Programs opened faster and I feel like I also get faster downloads just because the phone is able to process it quicker.

Phone clarity is great and the phone can get really load. The camera is one of the best I've seen on a phone. I have no fear in taking pictures in the dark or at concerts. Outside in natural light is where the phone really shines. People are even clearer than they might be on another 2.0 MP camera.

Again, this is the best phone I've ever used. Get one if you haven't.
