I must say I have had two of these phones. Me and my boyfriend had an account and we both had these, and then when we broke up I went out and got my own account with this phone and got it for free. This phone is a wicked little phone! the screen is generally easy to read, just not when the sun shines directly on it. The only things I had a beef with was I wish it had a speakerphone and a large memory for text messages. Never ever had a reception problem or anything, and I dropped this phone more times than I think I would like to admit
What a Lemon!
This phone was a supposed upgrade from the S/E T68i that I had previously. It's a cheap phone that didn't have the features that my T68i had. The battery life is much poorer than my previous phone. The audio is marginal at best. The RF performance was better than my T68i, but still lacks in comparison to other phones. Battery life is very poor, even though I had carefully conditioned the Li-ion battery at first use. The case and plastic lens scratch easily, definitely poorer build quality than the T68i.

I truly wish I hadn't gotten this phone. I feel I'm being generous by giving it a 2.0 rating. I got this phone free from Cingular when signing up with them a year and a half ago. At first, I had a lot of troubles with the SIM card and had to deal with the Cingular customer service. That wasn't entirely pleasant but I finally got a new phone and it works fine. But I can't say I've been entirely happy with it either.

I'm sure there is more that I can add. Needless to say, I'm getting a new phone, an LG L1400 and I'm looking very much forward to it. No more Sony Ericsson T226!!
Save yourself the trouble, get a different phone.

This phone is OK because its features are not that great.

This thing was great at first but, in retrospect, I suspect that I was just infatuated with the color screen and the web ability (my first for both). It was also the most similar in size to the Nokia I was replacing because of a recent service change. Well the most similar in size in my price range; free to really cheap.
I have have had mine for exactly one year and I find it to be nothing special now. The biggest gripe I have is that the sound quality has degraded dramatically over the course of the year. I drive a convertible and therefore have the volume turned way up most of the time (even with the top closed they are pretty noisy) and this handset cannot handle that. It also picks up WAY too much ambient noise which makes it that much more difficult to use in places like sporting events or other loud settings.
As for the button size, that isn't so much a problem for me as the button reaction time. When I am in a hurry or other time-critical situation, the buttons react entirely too slowly to be of any real use. Like a previous review, I find myself too frequently hand-dialing a number that is stored in memory as a result. Although more minor than my sound quality issue, this problem frustrates me more frequently.
If you are mostly in quiet cars and surroundings, do not do much frenzied button pressing, and want a smaller phone, this one serves the purpose well. Plus, when it rings at night and the screen lights up, it is kind of fun to see other drivers try to figure out what is lighting up your car. Other than the trivial fun factor though, like I said, it is nothing special.
AN average cell
I give dis cell a three because it's ok in some ways for an example it can get a camera but... you have to buy it for 60 bucks, WOW!, and it has cool ringtones. This cell can record things such as songs so neowarrior can record "Just Loose IT" for his ringtone. The pros are AT&T, man They want u to spend alot. I remember when Mom and me got this paper saying we can get free cells and no roaming.SO we got the cells and we went to Cali, this is the funny part we used our cells like two hours. When we came home their was a bill from AT&t it said we had to pay a 2,000.oo dollar bill. So my point is don't buy dis cell wit AT&T.

If I was Sony, I would be embarrassed to have my name on this product.
- Buttons are way too small; all too easy to hit other buttons
- Display is terrible in daylight
- Menu functionality is very poorly thought out. Sometimes I enter phone numbers manually even though I have them stored in the phone book because it's faster
- No 1-step shortcut keys to lock keypad or toggle between ring & silent mode
- No standard 2.5 mm headset jack - requires a special adapter, that, if attached, will not allow phone to be stored back in the case.
- This phone is going in the trash in 2 months when my contract with Cingular is over.
I cannot believe that, in this day and age, with a plethora of products out there as examples from PDA's to MP3 players, no one at Sony/Ericsson can design a simple user interface that's easy to use. Want to to see an example of a good user interface - check out Kyocerra 2235 - I could use it one handed while driving without even looking at the screen.

I've been shopping online for a decent phone to use with my wireless service, and this phone was the most durable, easy-to-read, with the numbers on the number keypad separate (I don't like the phone with the numbers on the keypad sharing the same button), and very nice looking with a sharp color display screen!!!
tiny buttons
ive had the phone for 4 or 5 months now and have had few problems with it. i am in a semi rural spot of OK so signal is hit and miss but over all phone does well. good battery life,durable,and ugly. but buttons are to small!
Sony Ericson T226 - the $600 "free" phone
Had been an AT&T customer for several years, got tired of $300 bills, so took advantage of an offer from SBC to get family members moved to Cingular. All four qualified for "Free" T226's. Won't go into the horrors of getting the service set up and numbers ported over. But the quality of reception has been a nightmare, and Cingular won't admit that these phones are the cause (though this site shows T226 is "discontinued" for Cingular). All four of us have had reception problems. Last week my wife was on an out-of-state trip and the battery suddenly wouldn't hold a charge. Spent two hours in Cingular store -- they finally replaced the battery. Got back to Tulsa, battery failed again. Store here said there's a short in keypad, "consistent w/water damage." Phone had never been wet. Replaced under warranty. Failed again. Store again said water damage, wouldn't replace the phone. Would love to run from Cingular, but they want $150 cancellation fee for each phone number, not just my acct. I'm stuck; this phone and cingular ___! [rhymes w/"stuck"].
