Samsung SCH-U740 Alias
Average Ratings
Not too bad
I recently joined the verizon family and got the samsung alias for free with a 2-year contract. The phone is great for messaging and decent for web browsing. The only two cons are the battery life and the phone just seems to shut down and power back up on its own. The battery life goes fast during talk time and it usually shuts off in the middle of an internet browsing session. It does not shut too often but still is annoying when it does. Ill hold on to it for a while and move on to something better in the future. Still not that bad of a phone though. Gotta love the QWERTY keypad.
Impressed
Had this phone for about six months and personally the pros overweight the cons. I love the duel flip feature as i have never saw another phone with this feature. the battery life is great the only things i dont like about this phone is the outside scratches very easy and some features are only available in inverted mode which gets annoying after awhile. other then that i am completely happy with this phone and wish it was available for other carriers
I like this phone
I received this phone just two days ago, and so far I have had no problems with it.
I have been sending text messages and have not had a problem with the keys being too small.
Voice quality seems to be good.
My wife tried my phone and then got me to order her one as well.
I'll write another review once I have had the phone for a few months.
dont get this phone!
i was pretty much forced to use this phone when the charger port on my enV went out and when we went to the store, they were out of the enV's. so i then had to borrow this phone from my uncle, after he had it for a month but had to get rid of it because he hated it. i dont like this phone because :
the keys on the keyboard are so so tiny, you hit two at a time, and it gets very frustrating.
the camera SUCKS! it doesnt take a good picture to save a life.
the mp3 player on it is horrible. it doesnt put out good music. ive also found that it has many player errors.
maybe this is just me, but the stupid bar type thing when you are using it in the computer type mode always gets in the way and it feels awkward to hold and it affects the texting.
maybe its just because i had the env, and so im comparing it to that great phone, but i would never use this phone again and i dont recommend for anyone to get it. thank god i can get an upgrade in august!
Alias: Good or Bad?
The Samsung Alias by Verizon Wireless is overall not a good phone. I have had an alias in every color. The first two broke because of charging problems and the third one that I am currently using now cuts off very frequently when receiving a picture/video message or when trying to access the internet. When fliping the phone to either direction, it sometimes freezes or show the wrong screen. It seems like once you take it off the charger, an hour later it goes dead. (talk time, not so good) I have contacted verizon about this problem, but it they keep trying to give me the same phone again. Also, the touch-sensored buttons on the front can not work after maybe two months due to if you keep it in your pocket with all of the moisture & etc. But overall, the phone may last for about 3-4 months.
SPEAKERS
yes, this is a good texting phone but I went through at least 3 of these phones! This is the second one that I've had that the speaker has gone out. I can no longer talk on it like a normal phone I have to flip it to the QWERTY side and talk on it in speaker phone. I can't have a private conversation anymore because it's on speaker and everyone can hear what I'm talking about. It wouldn't bother me so much if this what the only time that this has happened to me. But like I said this is my SECOND time that this has happened to me and the only thing verizon can do about this is send me another one. I do not reccomend this phone to anyone looking for texting and talking.
this phone sucks
I've had this phone for over a year and loved it at first.
Then after the first 3 weeks, my camera went, so I had to get a new phone. Since it was still a wicked new phone it was still amazing to me. Now I am getting ready to buy a new phone, like tomorrow. I've had to replace this phone 3 times already.
the fist time i told you. the second time the phone died within 5 hours after taking it off the charger and not using it at all. the third time it just vibrated non stop for no reason at all. you couldn't even see the screen just a bunch of colors.
Cons:
keyboard-small, and the buttons don't always press when you think they do.
sound-not great.

pros

This Phone Is Okay But Dont Buy It Buy The Krave
Overall a good buy
It's a nice phone that is ten times better than my old Motorola.
Pros:
~QWERTY keyboard; great for texters like me
~Camera; my last phone didn't have one
~decent ringtones
~Camcorder
~Cute wallpapers
Cons:
~Low battery life; I have to charge it every night.
~The camera seems to give blurry pics no matter how hard you try.
~I think the hinge isn't tight enough and it worries me that the flip may fall apart if handled just slightly too roughly.
Good, clever phone but fonts too small
The Samsung "Alias" SCH-u740 didn't go out of the store with me because the menu and contact-list fonts are too small, not because the keyboard is too small.
The keys bulge, so right away this clumsy guy could easily use the keyboard accurately. (Flat keys, in my experience, need to be larger and more spaced for me to use them as easily.) There's no number row at the top of the keyboard, though, and the work-arounds for that aren't intuitive.
The screen is large enough to display Accuweather's animated radar weather maps clearly. And there's a note space for each contact, like the Samsung SCH-u550. So if it hadn't been for the squinty fonts, I'd probably have one of these.
