Phone info

Aug 25, 2010 by sprint_man26

The guy who has the second comment on the page who said you can only use your phone web in a wi-fi area obviously has no idea what he's talking about. People should not make comments when they are not even smart enough to operate a smart phone. U should have to take an IQ test b4 you purchase 1.

Good Mid-Range Phone - not entry level

Nov 10, 2010 by patrik69

I purchased this phone at Target around the middle of October 2010 for $249 but it came with a $20 gift Target gift card.

Carrier: Virgin Mobile

It's my first Android phone. I previously had a iPhone but only owned if for a short while. I returned it due to dropped calls.

This phone doesn't drop calls. Call quality is excellent.

I'm extremely happy with Virgin Mobile. They utilize Sprint's network. I have no problems with their customer service.

I pay $25 flat fee per month for UNLIMITED DATA, and 300 anytime minutes. No additional charges for email or texts. (that's like paying $15 a month plus the normal $10 in taxes - the same plan would cost $80-100 if going through Sprint, Verizon, ATT, etc)

Android version: 2.1
The OS itself is kind of clunky. Tho that could be due to the processor. It's not iphone 4 fast but it's not supposed to be. The fact you can't close any applications is absurd but it's just a part of all Android phones. You must download and install a app killer program to do this. It's a good thing they're free in the Android Market.

All in all I'm very happy with this phone.
It's great for what it is - a nice midrange Android cell phone.

This phone is sorry....

First let me start off by sayingthis phone is horrific. The touch screen is very slow to react , you cant lock your messages, no camera light, shuts down oftern and you have to "force quit". You cant get on the internet unless your in wi fi reception. On the blackberry and other many sprint phones the internet is free where ever. Some people say this is good for a starter... no sir if they use this they might never get a cell phone again...sorry phone..very bad

Decent Entry Level Phone, otherwise avoid it

This phone is billed as the successor to the moment, yet the graphics are worse, the 3G internet is slow (EvDo 0 instead of EvDo A) and the screen really feels unresponsive from my tests. Samsung has shown poor support for the Moment so far, so there is no reason to expect the phone to get anything beyond Android 2.1.

Sprint's data plans are fairly inexpensive, so its a decent "my first smartphone," but its barely an upgrade from the 2 year old HTC G1, so i wouldn't recommend it for most.

"My little Epic..."

I really don't see why this phone has received so much flak, all in all, I thoroughly enjoy the features and functionality of this mid-range Android device. I've had the phone since 12-30-10 and my breakdown is as follows:

PROS:
Android 2.1 OS
good call quality
FULL four row (and rather spacious) QWERTY
physical talk and end keys
large, capacitive touch screen
3.2 mega-pixel camera with auto-focus
slim enough form factor to fit in the "cell pocket" of jeans
decent amount of heft in hand

CONS:
no 2.2 update as of yet for Virgin Mobile
system can be slow and unresponsive AT TIMES
no flash on the cam
four android capacitive buttons can be unresponsive from time to time
incoming call screen takes about 4-7 seconds to come up *HIGHLY annoying*

I am on Virgin Mobile in the DFW, Texas area. Call quality is what one would expect. The ONLY gripe i have with calls is strictly incoming. You will hear the ringtone, but the screen itself will be black and you cant see who is calling. This phone is not my talk phone, so I'm not terribly concerned.

At 25 big ones a month, you really can't beat that price for a damn good, mid-range, Android device. Try out some apps, personalize your experience, and you should be good to go til you are ready to sign your life away for the Epic 4G...

Not as bad as other reviewers are saying

When I bought this phone, I got exactly what I expected to be getting: an entry-level android phone. My two previous phones were the iPhone 3GS and then the LG Rumor Touch on VirginMobile. This phone is not as good as the iPhone but blows the Rumor Touch out of the water. Other reviewers are complaining about the lag -- I haven't seen it. Ok, maybe the Intercept is not as instantly responsive as a Evo or Galaxy S, but it is sufficiently and non-annoyingly responsive.

The only complaint I have noticed about this phone so far is the camera doesn't have a flash, which I can live with.

I just didn't want the other reviewers to dissuade you from what I think is a great entry-level android phone, especially on the Virgin Mobile network.
