LG VX-4600

Best LG since the TM510
I gotta say this is a great phone and the other reviews will tell you that as well. Now I gotta get this off my chest, there are a lot of reviewers knockin points of for minor things like cant see screen as well in sunlight, which most phones you cant. Phone has a yeloowish tint, sounds like youve got a bad one that a year warranty comes in handy for. I mean come on people this phone will not fly you to work and will not buy your gass for you.
fatally defective
I've had the 4600 on Verizon (So. Cal.) for about two months, and it has recently begun having maddening, intermittent problems for over a week and in several different locations.
Basically, the phone will act as though it can talk to the network, the reception indicator behaves as it should (disappearing when in the basement, reappearing outdoors) but the phone cannot make or recieve calls. The problem appears for a few days and then disappears for no apparent reason. There is no way to tell that it's happening except to try making a call...but if someone has tried to call you, you have no way to know.
That makes it useless.
It seems like a well-built phone otherwise and has excellent performance when it's working...otherwise it would be a zero.
LG VX4600
I have only had a cell phone for 6 months. In my opinion, there are only two things that are really important in a phone: form and functionality. Form being the looks, screen, keypad, menus, ringers, volume, etc. Functionality being the reception of calls, does it drop calls, missed calls, and unable to dial out.
In my opinion, the LG VX4600 has nice form. I would give it a 4 or 5 in form. The problem lies in functionality. It did well for about 2 months. After that, it started dropping calls in places with a strong signal, not dialing out in places of a strong signal, and a few other things. This is the biggest factor for me. It does not matter what kind of form a phone has. If it does not function properly, then it is not worth having.
PROS: I like the outside screen for caller ID. I also like many other things about its form.
CONS: Unless you never leave a place with a STRONG signal, do not get it! It's not worth your time or money.
Good form, bad function
This is a very nice phone, with great color and great features, but I do have a few gripes. The external display, while colorful and pretty, is almost useless, as it turns off after 3 minutes and gives you no indication of whether you've received a call... no tone or anything. If you want to press the side button to activate the display, it will show you whether you have a message or a missed call, but other than that, good luck.
The other major gripe I have, whether service (Verizon) or phone I don't know, but it often drops calls with a full signal strength bar, and sometimes the phone doesn't even ring. Other times, I get messages up to 24 hours after they've been left. All in all, the horrible function outweighs the few positives this phone has.
