Nokia 6235i / 6236i
Average Ratings
Good - for what I paid for.
I bought this phone from Verizon about 3 weeks ago and wanted to give it some time to see what I really thought about it. So far, it has been a good, reliable phone. The reception is much much better then my old LG VX6000. There were areas that I would go and get completely cut off with the LG whereas this phone still receives a strong signal. The screen quality is about the same as the LG. The characters in Text mode is quite smaller then the LG. If you are far-sighted and love texting, you may want to stay away from this phone. The Loudspeaker mode is very clear and the party on the other end doesn't even know they're on speaker-phone. It also helps when you need to write something down while talking on the phone. The only thing I wished for is that the mic could be used in a little bit longer range so that I can put it on my lap while driving etc. I also love the fact that I could download software straight from Nokia's website to sync my phone to my computer via infared for free! ...unlike the $50 Mobile Office Kit that was needed with my LG.
There are a few cons however... my biggest issue with this phone is the thumb-stick. It has been three weeks now and I'm still not use to it. I keep having problems wanting to push "up", "left", or "right" and accidentally "selecting". The keys are also not as responsive as the LG. I type very fast while texting and this phone sometimes misses characters that I have typed. Also, the placement of these keys are too close to not have the soft-keys, talk, and end to be a little different. I hit the "3" key instead of "End" more times then I can count. And I have wanted to select "Loudspeaker" which is right above the "End" key and ended up hanging up on the person. The camera isn't anything to rave about either. It's painfully slow and the quality is the same as the LG; kinda sad considering the technology is over 2 years old. For $25 though, I'll deal with the cons.
This One Is a Keeper
This review has been truncated from my MUCH longer review that will be posted elsewhere. Please excuse the lack of detail due to PS.com limitations.
Style
The 6236i is a very attractive LITTLE phone. Nice size.
Build Quality
Despite its size, this phone is SOLID. Very solid, in fact. Standard wonderful Nokia build.
Reception
It doesn't show as many bars as my E815 did, but I definitely gets equal reception. In fact, there is any static at all. No complaints, ESPECIALLY for a CDMA phone with an internal antenna. Impressive.
Voice Quality
The voice quality is great. Both the regular speaker and the loudspeaker are crystal clear and up to par.
Functional Design
The buttons are a little bit small, but workable. The only complaint I really have right now is about the joystick and the fact that it is a little bit small and uncomfortable to use, but it is easy to get used to. The internal antenna does well and provides good reception. Also, I like how the headset jack is so well-hidden. Nokia really knows what they are doing.
Display
The display gets an A from me. It is crisp and clear, just large enough. Don't let 128x128 fool you, this is a perfect size for this phone.
Camera
I was very surprised at how great the camera actually is: the pic is displayed well and doesn't look grainy. The phone is very good at adjusting to lighting conditions and even boasts a "night mode". The video camera was less impressive, but good for what it's meant for.
Battery Life
The battery life is great. Lots of usage: still full 7/7 bars after half a day.
Other Thoughts
I do wish you could listen to the radio without a headset or other kind of attachment. A memory card slot would be nice, but this phone has 15 megs of memory, so it does well. The Nokia interface is so easy to use, and it's great for this phone. For what it is, this phone is fantastic. Even though there are some minor things I mentioned, I'm still giving it 5/5 because the benefits outweigh the downsides.
HORRIBLE
THIS PHONE HORRIBLE IT TAKES FOREVER TO LOCK THE KEYS. THE SCROLL BUTTON HURTS YOUR FINGERS. THE PICTUES ARE HORRIBLE. THE PHONE IS FAT AND HEAVY IT WAS A NIGHTMARE.THE ONLY GOOD THING WAS IT GOT GOOD SERVICE. YOU CANT EVEN HEAR WHEN YOU TALK TO PEOPLE.

i want candy
i love this phone because it's great candy phone. i love candy phones because they are less easy to break. i got this phone on tuesday and i drop my phones a lot and i dropped it like five or six times (oops) and nothing happened to it at all. if you drop it a lot i reecommend a scree protector but you can get a new faceplate for it if this happens and the screen isn't really the screen it's a cover on it already ont he faceplate.
the phone has a great speaker and a really good keypad. good signal. i love the camera and video camera, they are amazing. i will keep this phone forever if i don't drop it in the toilet or something, ha ha.
Nokia did it again! Awsome phone!!!
like it's big brother without the bluetooth nokia 6255i this 6235i is a well balanced phone for the price in overall! Loved it!!!
I'm selling mine: there's no call reminder
This is a fine phone with 1 exception, there's no call reminder. My LG VX6000 would vibrate or light up every X min when I had a message but the 6236 doesn't. The impact is every time i want to check if there's a message (vmail or text) I have to pick it up. As i don't have a home phone this is a fatal flaw for me. Can't understand how they would have so many other features but forget something so basic.
Finally, a good Verizon phone!
This is a great little phone - smart design, intuitive menus, great reception, small & thin for slipping into a pocket, and a surprisingly good (VGA) camera. A big improvement over my LG VX-6100!
Only gripe is the sound quality is a bit tinny on the built-in earpiece; haven't tried a headset yet. The speakerphone is very clear & loud.
If you're on Verizon and want a solid, basic phone with great reception, it doesn't get any better than this.
Terrible
Great phone except, the joy stick really hurts my finger when I use it. Also, when searching for a name, there is a bar to type in the name as opposed to just scrolling, and the bar takes up a lot of space. Also, the on/off switch is hard to use. Lastly, the key are a bit loose and don't feel all that reliable. REception is fine. Joystick is the worst part.
