Nokia 6101 / 6102
Average Ratings
Pretty Nice Phone Overall
I picked up this phone about 2 or 3 months ago, and I really don't have many complaints.
PRO's
-Excellent signal strength, really pulls the signal well off of T-Mobile towers in the greater Cleveland area
-I like the small, simple design.
-Although the quality of the outside screen isn't the greatest, it's still outside color screen.
-Video capture is pretty good, and easy to use.
-High quality camera.
-FM radio, which can play through speaker.
-Ringer, which clearly plays mp3's, can get very loud.
-Overall very easy to use.
-Text messages are saved if accidentally closed, something my old Moto v400 didn't have. Very helpful!
CON's
-Easily scratched.
-No ability to change ring volume, or style, with phone closed. The v400 had that.
-No flash, or zoom, with camera.
-Headset connection isn't super durable, but it's not too bad as long as you're small delay with button pushes.
I would definitely recommend this phone to anyone who wants an easy to use, mid-range, phone.
Nice improvement!
Pros: Easy to manuever, large screen, and easy to use guide.
Cons: Couldn't download my own ringtones or wallpaper.
Maybe I didn't do something right with the downloads. I'll try again later.
Very good phone overall.
Well this phone has amazing reception. I have full bars 90% of the time and I live in a very rural town. The volume on the earpiece sucks, because i have it at full volume and when I'm not in a quiet room it is hard to hear, but if you enable the automatic volume control it makes a world of difference!
Pros:
Great quality screen
Nice Button Layout
Very classy looking phone!
Cons:
Very poor battery life, i hardly make it through one day.
Very bad button nubs, they put indentions in the screen,
Both screens are very dim, not bright enough, and the outside display isn't very clear.
I would recommend this to anyone, but i would definitely check out the razr first, because I'm getting rid of this to get the razr.
What I can't hear you
I had the 6102 using Cingular Service in the Minneapolis area. Comparing it to my Moto V551 for signal strength was pretty much a wash for the most part, but comparing it to my Razr it wasn't as good. It was usually 1 bar less. The camera was not very sharp and clear. Of course it is a cell cam but I have seen others that can take a descent pic. The menu's were okay to navigate, but of course this was my first Nokia.
My biggest complaint, and it was huge was that I couldn't hear the person on the other line at all unless I was in a perfectly quiet room. I am not hard of hearing so it is not because of anything like that. I tried to use the fix that was posted by another on this site but it really didn't help.
I wasn't able to test anything else due to the inability to use the basic feature of a phone and that is to communicate.
Hope Nokia can get this worked out in the future releases as I like their other features.
If you have great hearing then this one is a good bet. If you are like most and want a nice loud and clear phone try something else.
a good 'pure' phone
Pros:
Great Battery life
Great Signal and reception (of course)
Voice on other line is crystal clear
FM radio
Good quality camera for it's level
Cons:
Hi-Fi ringers sound like you-know-what
Slow response on the menu interface
where is the normal "ring" tone?
Overall, if you're looking for a 'pure' phone (battery life, reception) look no further... but if ur like me who care about ringers, look elsewhere (v360?)
Nice phone
If you want a phone with good reception, this is the one for you. Nokia in my experience have generally better recepction than their competitors including Samsung and Motorola. It has a camera, fm radio, relatively small, stylish, and fantastic battery life. My only gripes is the lack of ringtones (I spent $1.49 to get a good one). I like the external color screen and I do wish the receiver was a tiny bit louder but it wouldn't deter me from getting the phone. Great Nokia flip!!
Good Overall Phone
Nokia phones have always been known to be very user-friendly and this phone continues the trend. I had the phone for about 3 months and it was a pretty good phone.
Pros:
Good speakerphone
Good call quality (T-Mobile New York)
Lightweight and easy to carry
Video recorder can capture close to 2 minutes
You can list multiple numbers for one contact, including email addresses and a picture ID
Cons:
Looks very cheap; the keypad feels like it's about to fall off
Gets scratches very easily; I take excellent care of my phones yet this one still managed to get scratches
External screen resolution is very poor; images look fuzzy
Camera is ok; not as good as the V300 or Razr
Despite its cons, this is still a great phone for anyone who wants a device that delivers good call quality and takes somewhat decent pictures. The phone goes for $150 from T-Mobile direct. I'm sure you can also get it for $120 or maybe even less on Ebay.
Nokia 6102 - A great simple phone!
For me it was time to upgrade my old Sony-Ericsson. I liked Sony but didnt' want their feature-rich,bulky and heavier phones available at this time. This review board on Phonescoop came in very handy, I checked out each possible model and found the feedback to be very helpful. I have been a happy Cingular Customer for 3 years and chose the Nokia based on the reviews here. This is my first Nokia. I've had Samsung, NEC, Sony phones.
This is week 2 for me and I couldn't be happier with the Nokia.
I use a phone to make and receive calls, and when I want to take pics or movies I take my cameras, so the whole gizmo-world of multifunction phones didn't appeal to me. I like to have the camera in the phone for those moments where you just need to take a pic.
As many feedback comments show, I can attest to the fantastic reception on the Nokia. It beats every model I've ever tried, my own or that of friends. Better than Razor too.
Positives:
- menus intuitive and easy to use
- downloaded the Nokia PC suite and transferred my many hundreds of contacts easily from Outlook via the Infrared port
- phone looks and feels great, sure the black plastic shows fingermarks as some other owners pointed out, so use surgical gloves if you can't handle this - it's a fact of life
- I loved the fact that I can customize the buttons to save a lot of time scrolling through menus. You can assign many phone functions, e.g. the calendar, phonebook, misssed calls, incoming call log, websites etc.
- The battery life is good
- Radio is a nice touch, can't play it through the speaker until you plug in the earbud or stereo set then disconnect w/speaker on
- camera is adequate
- lightweight
- speakerphone function works fantastic
Cons:
Next to none. The missing 0.5 points for a ferfect "5" are due to the stub antenna which makes the phone a little bigger than it needs to be.
TIP:
I bought a leather case, car charger and ear bud on Ebay for less than $17 incl. shipping and saved.

Amazing Business Phone
This phone is amazing. The reception and call quality is crystal clear with no flaws. I own a business and use about 2500 minutes per month. I've had this phone for a month now and it performs amazing. The color screen is one of the best I've ever seen. The Nokia build quality and reception is unbeatable. The user-interface is very easy to learn. It has great battery life. The camera is fine for my needs. Overall for $129.99, this phone has it all.
