Good durable phone
I have had this phone for about a year now, and I love it!! I have dropped it a dozen times, and it is still going strong. I love the fact that it comes in different colors. I got the pink.
Pros:
Has NEVER dropped a call
Color options
easy navigation
BT compatible
durable
cute
Cons:
none that I can think of.
When I got this phone, I knew what features it had and did not have, and it has lived up to all of my expectations.
Sweet Phone
This phone has been nothing but good to me, I don't have to charge it every day or 2.....i can wait 3 or 4 days then have only one battery bar left. The screen quality is amazing, and the sound. My only real CON about this phone is that the speaker is on the bottom of the phone and if it is sitting on a soft surface it blocks the sound. But if it is sitting on a hard surface like a desk or table the sound is quite loud. Even the earpiece volume is loud...most of the time i have to turn the volume down while I'm speaking to someone.
It is either a hit or miss with these phones. I hear so much bad things about this phone. But i have had no problems with it. Now my bf got the same one except black and he has had to send it away the earpiece volume went. It got crackily *i know that isn't a word* and you could barely hear anything on it even when the volume is on high. So in my opinion it is either you get a really good one, or a really bad one. As i said its a hit or miss.
PROS:
* The screen quality
* Volume
* Camera
* Sturdiness
* Battery life
CONS:
* Speaker is on the back
* Key pad is too smooth, I keep hitting the wrong keys.
Great phone!! (Just not for me...)
I switched to Sprint from being a 4-year customer with Cingular, since most of my friends and family were on Sprint and they offered unlimited text messaging (something Cingular didn't offer at the time of my switch and texting was costing me a fortune!) Anyway, I was in love with the Katana from the get-go. I love Japanese styled cellphones and this was no exception. Well, when I switched, I fell for a salesman's ploy and first got the RAZR (cause it was less expensive), which after 28 days, I completely hated and couldn't wait to get rid of it. That's when I got my Katana. It was my baby from the start. I couldn't keep my hands off of it for the first few days. It had everything I wanted in a cellphone. Sure it doesn't have an MP3 player, but I have an iPod so I don't need one on my phone! The camera quality was MUCH better than my previous SGH-P777 on Cingular, and the Sprint RAZR, both of which had megapixel cameras. I now use my digital camera less and use my Katana, and despite not being an EVDO phone, it uploads all my pictures to Sprint Albums super fast! I downloaded GMail app. and Opera Mini web browser, and it is like having a Blackberry! Email and true web browsing, and all super fast!
One con, however, is that the ringtones are really low. After 6 months with my Katana, I've missed a lot of calls since I work in the music business and can't hear my ringtones in the studio. Thus, it hurts me to part with this babe. Getting a Fusic cause of the loud ringtones that I need. I don't wanna let my Katana go. I will MISS this phone.
PROS:
-Excellent flip mechanism. Sturdy & strong.
-Great voice quality.
-Excellent bluetooth headset capabilities.
-Excellent camera for a VGA.
-Fast internet despite not a power vision phone.
-Customizable T9 and fast message delivery.
-Great support for GMail and Opera Mini. Becomes a Blackberry rival with these apps!
CONS:
-Low ringtones.
-Plain U.I.
-Battery life is poor, brought my charger alone all the time, no big for me.
2 Phones - both broken
We purchased 2 of these phones in Dec. 06 for my wife and I. The sub LCD screen on both phones are now broken. On my wife's phone the screen stays on all the time (depleting the battery) and on my phone the sub LCD is washed out. It seeems like this is a common problem. Shouldn't there be a recall out on these phones?
What's worse is that although we are still within our 1 year warrantly period, our only option is to mail the phones to the Sanyo repair facility in Texas and wait two weeks, without a phone, while they determine whether the defect is the fault of the manufacturer or user abuse. Based on this they will choose to or not to repair them. I assure you that it is not usere abuse but a manufcturer's defect. But what gets me is that I will have to wait TWO WEEKS without a phone! Outrageous! When it comes to Katanas, JUST SAY NO!!!
Buy anything but Katana
We bought three of these from Sprint five months ago. Mine is back in the mail for service for the second time, and as soon as it gets back #2 goes in the mail for repair.
Phone #1- The first time it blew it had so many problems I couldn't tell where one stopped and another started. This current time it intermittently acts like that commercial- I can hear them, they can't hear me and it happens randomly in the middle of a call. That caused a frantic chase for another cell phone to call the person I was talking to back asap.
#2's front display went wonky a couple of days ago. It is dim and unreadable and has a wide (dim) white line running across it.
All three phones have the worst sound quality I have ever heard on a cell phone and we have been using cells for nearly a decade.
had better
This phone is alright if you are simple. But being young this is not a phone for you. I have had the phone for about 3 months now and I wish I could give it back. but it does have some pros about the phone.
PROS:
very nice colors
slim look,light weight
loud earpiece
CONS:
downloaded ringtone volume terrible
no real games just demos
doesnt come with a majority of ringtones
no flash on camera
no video record.
Thin, basic, simple phone
This phone replaced my Samsung A940 which was having some software issues.
I thought I'd be ok with just a basic phone with nothing more than a camera but things haven't turned out with the Katana
Pros:
Solid feel and quality
Made by Sanyo (always a pro)
Sharp screen
Size
Battery life
Cons:
Smooth flat keypad (hard to navi. by touch)
Small speaker - I could never hear my ringtones or calls on speaker
Weak vibrate - never felt phone go off in pocket
No flash for camera
Great basic phone but missing some of the basics that make this phone functional for everyday use.
Switching over to Samsung M620 Upstage. Mainly for mp3 player and stereo bluetooth
...and the cool factor it has!
Another excellent Sanyo
After owning the 8100 for 3 years, I was fond of Sanyo phones, the best I've owned from the Samsungs and Motorolas. I had a RAZR for 2 months, before I switched a friend for the Katana. As a phone, it functions perfectly. On Sprint, the reception and voice quality are excellent, the menus are fast, bluetooth works with my Moto headset, and the battery is great for a slim phone. If you don't want or need all the bells and whistles, which I don't, this is a good phone.
Go Katana!
The Katana is great! Its kinda like a Sprint Version of the Razr. and the greastest thing is it doesnt break as easy as a Razr.
PROS:
Camera,
Text Messaging,
Picture Messaging,
Sprint PCS Service,
Mobile Web,
Bluethooth.
CONS:
Instant Messaging Extra Charge To Use It,
No Sprint Music Store,
But I still think that the Katana is a good phone!
Katana rox
