HTC Touch (CDMA) / XV6900

as for the wi-fi
I just want to respond to some other reviews on here by saying, read the manual! If you go onto the HTC website, you will find out that the touch does have wi-fi. As for myself, I think this is a great new device. If your having that hard of a time typing on it...try the transciber, very cool option!
the iphone killer
unbelievable, i have used the iphone and compared to the touch, it doesn't even touch it!! i would say the only downside would be battery life, but hey thats what car chargers are for..
i just received this phone yesterday, and had all my info from my ic902 transfered in less than 30 minutes
sprint speed at its best
sure wish it worked.....
Waited and waited for this to come out with Sprint. Changed from Verizon to get these. Bought one for myself and my wife. Within the first 2 days, mine crashed 3x and my wife's crashed 2x. When they crashed, nothing would work and they would NOT TURN ON. No matter how many times we tried, would not turn on. Only way to get them on was to open the case, remove battery, wait, re-install battery, shut case, and turn back on. What a pain.
Took them back. They easily replaced them with phones from 2nd shipment, and hopefully a different batch. We really wanted these to work. Over the next 2 1/2 weeks mine crashed 2 more times, but I didn't tell my wife because we wanted to keep them and make them work. Then hers crashed. Nothing we did would revive it. Not even removing the battery and replacing it! Problem is that when it does crash...you don't know it until you go to use it. You don't get any of your calls or messages until it is too late.
Hers went out on a weekday, and have no idea how many calls she missed because even the Sprint store couldn't revive it. Problem is my wife is a medical admin that manages multiple locations for a large health provider in So Calif., and is on call 24 hrs a day. She is a first-responder with the hospital and clinics for emergencies or disasters, and also a first-responder with the County. As you may know, with the fire disasters in So Cal lately, her cell phone is critical, and cannot be compromised.
We had to take them back again, and this time we sadly had to give up on them.
It does not appear that HTC or Sprint did enough beta testing or I believe they would have discovered this shortcoming very quickly. Hopefully, they will have an upgrade that could correct this problem soon.
Pros:
Nice feel
Great rubberized case
Nice touchscreen
Good volume and speakerphone
Cons:
Stopped working (see above)
No voice-dial for numbers
No side button to make a call with Bluetooth
Battery life about 2 1/2 hrs of use
Hard to read in Sun
HTC 6900
Honestly; This is the worst phone I ever dealt with. Phone freezes. Battery won't last more than Half a day. Gets very hot when you talk on it. I changed the battery twice on it and still freezes on me. I took it back to Sprint and they won't even want to look at it. I fully charge it then when I turn the power on , nothing happens. This is a worthless phone.....I won't recommend it at all.
Nothing Redeeming
When I found the Touch on Sprint's website, I was stoked that the phone had all of the features I use without a big monthly fee or carrier change. When I used the phone I was completely disappointed because the phone didn't actually work. Literally, the phone would stop responding. I couldn't even get into a phone mode to make a call. I restarted the device six times before getting it would stop hanging on a simple function like text message or phone call. I used this phone for two days before exchanging it. The Touch is the worst phone I've ever used. I really wanted it to work.
PROS:
+ Nice Camera
+ Feels good to hold, not bulky
CONS:
- Randomly the screen stops & starts responding (think:earrings)
- Windows hangs when trying to do basic tasks
- Slow to respond to keystrokes
- Stylus to miniature keyboard does not make for easier texting
- The side buttons tend to be oversensitive, while the main buttons seemed to make the OS hang
- If you jump through enough exchange hoops, you can synch your email. Otherwise, you're out.
- Tries to read full web pages, but errors out (couldn't load yahoo.com)
this Phone is terrible
I have this phone now don't get me wrong it has its perks, but it has a lot more flaws.
it gets stuck it doesn't send picture mail to other phones the Internet is very slow. I mean for the price I paid for this phone it should be a great phone but it is nothing close to a great phone!
my advise to you is you are thinking of buying this phone I would tell you don't do it because you will regret it very highly.
GREAT GREAT GREAT
I work for sprint and man I tell you the phone is just crazy!! When It comes out the box it has a couple of add ons needed like the link to be able to watch anything from youtube to google to veio tv and like eight other networks. I have all the features including the TV and man sprint even allows you to rent movie on your phone how crazy is that. I mean sprint is sprint and thats why we didnt need the iphone, we have the TOUCH. Sounds so much better if you need any help with yo sprint phone leave me a message.
No GPS Currently, but...
I can't review this phone yet, as I am waiting for my phone to come in on friday, a more detailed review to follow. But just wanted to say a few things.
1. Of course there is no wi-fi. That was announced about a month ago when the phone's spec sheet came out.
2. Who cares about wi-fi. It's a drain on the battery and it really isn't all that fast. EVDO-rel0 is fast, and REV-A will help with the uploads.
3. Rev-A brings me to the GPS. There is a software update planned for late December to upgrade to Rev-A and unlock the GPS so it can be used with Sprint Navigation (telenav)
4. The keyboard issue is a big issue, but I think "TouchPal" may be the answer most are looking for. It's a 2 letter per key QWERTY like the BB Pearl and the TOUCH's 20 key. But where it is different is that you can slide up down left or right on any key to do a specific function (punctuation, entering specific letters for passwords, capitalization, etc). This will be the first thing I install on my Touch when I get it.
Missed Calls
What a great phone, exept the fact that when my phone is in sleep mode I dont receive any phone calls. . . Now I sell sprint and I have had this phone for over a month, needless to say it is the sharpest looking phone out and all day long people want to play with it, a great selling point is the style. however after my experience with this phone, I want to do the opposite. I want to get away from it. I miss an average of eight to ten calls on any given day. Has anyone else had this issue and can it be fixed?
TOUCH -- Not in TOUCH ?
The HTC 6900 aka touch is simply a cheaper over priced version of whats already out there.
Cons:
1) No WIFI, for the price of this phone it should have wifi
2) any type of writing, like text messaging or emailing, is horrid, there is no full qwerty keyboard, it is doubled keyed just like most of the blackberrys, this mixed with the tiny screen makes it trully impossible for any guy to write on it using this mode. If you arrange the screen to the side long position, your still stuck with tiny keys that are doubled keyed.
You can switch it to standard abc/1 keypad style which is actually the easiest way to type on it, but for the price of a PDA you shoulndt have to resort to using the same feature a free phone has.
3) the interface is choppy and slow, I would even go so far to say the htc6700 was faster.
4) No movement sensor so screen doesnt follow when you tilt the phone, This was one of the coolest features of the iphone, but the touch the so called "iphone killer" doesnt have this. You have to manually change it and when you do it lags and for a breif second the screen chops up.
5) touch controls are off, esp when working with pictures, you can do the same exact movement and recieve 2 different results.
6) the picture quality is terrible for a 2 mpeg
7) the screen resolution isnt as great as it should be
8) The stylist is very small, for a women it shouldnt be to much buit for a full grown guy it felt like a toothpick in my hand.
9) it has no java enabled web as of now.
10) IN the interface nothing trully flows, it will scroll up and down in some menu's but it isnt smooth to say the least.
THE BOTTOM LINE -
this phone has great looks and a good feel to it, It is very lacking, esp since you can get the same UI on the mogul (htc 6800) and it will actually run smoother and faster with more features, not to mention a full qwerty keyboard.
The Touch is a rip off the only thing it adds to the current market is a new looking design,
