The Next Step in Mobile Devices

Jan 16, 2009 by ryannordstrom

There are enough in-depth reviews on here and i won't repeat all that's been said. The G1 signifies what will be the next paradigm of mobile phones. Its open-architecture OS makes it the most versatile, customizeable, fun device available. I greatly prefer this device over my iPhone, Blackberry Curve, Palm Treo.

Simply Amazing for the Debut Product....

So I've had the Google G1 for about a week now and I feel its appropriate for me to write a review. I live in Webster, MA., and currently have the T-Mobile service. There are a few PROS as well as some CONS so here they are:

PROS:

Touch Screen is Brilliant.

Keyboard is near Perfect.

Web Browser is quick and easy.

Music Support is great.

Battery is above average. (after a full battery re-cycle)

Youtube is awesome.

CONS:

Settings menu could have a few more options.

The "3.2" MegaPixel Camera is very touchy and has no settings.

The sliding hinge could be a little more stable.

OVERALL: The G1 has unlimited possibilites and is rising fast. The iPhone better watch out. This device is by far the most capable device out.

PS: I'm typing this on my G1 =)

Great Devise

I started out with T Mobile in Aug of 08 and quickly grew tired of my kiddie Sidekick 08 so i had to shell out 399 for my G1.

When i first started using it, i really was not blown away on the first day. Then i started going into the options and apps menu. I can honestly say that this is one of the most option filled phones ive ever had. I love the ability to change everything on the phone.

Pros:
-Screen size and definition
-Call quality good
-APPS STORE IS THE BEST IDEA EVER
-touch pad reacts well
-Easy to move music and pics between device and PC
-Browser speed is great and im not in a 3g area (Pittsburgh ..come on Tmobile..help us out!!!)
-Love the music player and Amazon MP3 system is cheaper then itunes...and works better in my opinion!
-Dialing touch pad is easy to navigate

Cons
-Battery goes pretty quick but with any phone that does more then just call, they all do
-i dont like that i have to open the keyboard anytime i have to type something..but that will be fixed with the cupcake patch
-If you are somebody who opens and closes your phone a lot..this will probably kill your hinge over time!!!
-Not for somebody who is looking to take pro pictures as camera quality is not the greatest

All in all, with more patches and a battery upgrade on the way, not to mention unlimited potential for apps on the Android system, i am very happy with my purchase

Great Touch + Key Pad

This phone has the best combination of touch screen and keypad. The Android OS is great but needs some improvement. My only problem is with T-Mobile. When in a marginal 3G and 2G network the phone drops both data services. Setting it to use only 2G makes it work. Talking with there tech support is like salt in a cut.

Pros: Great touch screen, ok slider, OS allows many free apps, many apps to totally customize the phone, track ball make web browsing and pointing precise, fast.

Cons: Locked into Google network, "Though it is a Google phone!", slider feels weak, track ball does not allow cleaning so don't eat and use this phone!, Poor camera quality, no video recorder, horrible battery life.

Its not bad

I may have been to nice to give the G1 a 3.5, but it is a relay neat phone. It has a wonderful touch screen and the software is ok, the apps are awsome. to put it simply...

Pros:
Nice touch screen
Apps are free and fun
have not had too many software glitches (for a new phone thats good)

Cons:
Battery life sucks (I mean I recharge it like 2-3 times per day)
does not run java
the media player does not work with many forms of movies

all in all it is a fun phone for people who do not use there phone for everything like me. I will be sending this one back, its not a bad phone, I had to keep it for a week, because I did like it, but It is not worth keeping in my opinion

The Best Thing to Hit T-Mobile

Dec 20, 2008 by Mental-Slave

I have never considered myself a cell phone junkie, oh how I used to despise all those geeks that wouldn't stop talking about the latest gadgets. But I have had Verizon for over 8 years and to very little to complain about service was great but I was stuck in an expensive plan and finally just gave up hope. When I seen a commercial for the G1, I work for a at&t and even purchased the Palm Centro but when my company line got taken away I couldn't go back to my EnV for Verizon, so I took the leap into the technical jungle HTC has always been a company I have been a bit weary about after all I work for a at&t in the warranty department and the tilt was all I seen everyday. But the G1 was different it wasn't windows based but ran on Google's new OS. And T-Mobile is great company with excellent customer service, so I took the Bronze G1 and ran with it. At first I was a bit let down that the back literally has to be pealed off, and where I live there is no 3G coverage. And then I couldn't access what was saved to the phone memory after I made some horrible ringtones and were saved to the phone I couldn't delete them eventually 2 days into owning the device I performed a hard reset. All in all I wrote this long passage to show people that I am no technical buff and still this phone was made for me.

The pros for the G1
1. The applications are great and a lot of them are free.
2. T-Mobile has great coverage even with no 3G the Edge is pretty fast.
3. Everything else this phone works wonders

Cons
1. Trying to delete things off of the device memory is very fraustrating, this is why I did not give this device a 5.
2. The battery life is pretty horrible but that is to be expected this device does everything it is a computer in the palm of your hands, but if you download the power manager application (it is free) it will automatically disable the wifi, bluetooth, turn the 3G off and dim the back light it helps a lot I now charge my G1 once a day.

Awesome Phone

I just got this phone 2 days ago and so far I love it, there is so much you can do with it. You can't get bored with this by your side.

Pro:

Touch screen very responsive
Bright Colors
Speaker Is Very Loud
Very well Organized
Browser Is Fast

Cons:

Feels a bit cheap
No Headphone Jack
Rollarball Mouse Is Loose
Doesn't Support Ring-tones

Overall The Phone Is Great And I think It's One Of The Best Phones I've Seen In A Long Time By Any Carrier.

My search is over!!!!

Dec 6, 2008 by hucworld

a 5 rating is or should be rare on this board but I feel as tho this phone deserves it. Having an iPhone3g I searched and searched for a replacement after I switched carriers and the G1 was and is the answer. Several of my co-workres had this phone and I toyed with it and felt it was a wanna be iPhone. I decided to mess with phones like the Behold, the MotoZine and Sidekick 2008. All of which never really meet my needs as far as email and texting. I missed the apps store on the iPhone drastically and now I have the android market. The only let down about the phone is the battery life. I found myself charging the phone several times after texting, internet exploring(which is better and faster with Opera Mini) and constant bluetooth use. I would highly highly recommend this phone to anyone who wants a touch screen phone and want a lower bill than what at&t has to offer. The phone as so much depth that you will find yourself exploring more than you found each time prior.
