Audiovox CDM-8910 / PM-8912 / Flasher V7
Average Ratings
Not Recommended for Alltel service.
I have sold many of these phones for Alltel service because of the attractive price for a camera phone but a majority of this phone and Audiovox's 8410 have come back to the store.
I can't speak for the service of other carriers but for Alltel this is one of the worst phones I've carried.
The biggest problem is that the phone prefers Analog over Digital and will stay locked in Analog for a long time even in strong digital areas. For instance I stood less than 3 blocks from the cell tower and the phone still came up as analog. when it does go to digital the phone's signal is much weaker than other phones.
I've contacted Audiovox about this but they keep denying a problem even though I've had over 75% of these phones come back to my store with this problem. (that is not an exaggeration but probably an underestimate).
Do not purchase this phone for Alltel.
Reception Not Up To Par
I got this phone for Christmas, but I already traded it in for a new phone today (the Nokia 6255i). It really hadn't given me any problems, but the reception wasn't as good as other phones with the same carrier. Since I live in a rural area, this is a real problem for me. Also, it has a bad reputation, which makes me uneasy.
PROS
~ great, sleek design - I loved the trendy look of this phone!
~ wonderful color display, with many colors
CONS
~ reception is not up to par, as compared to other phones by the same carrier. When I tried talking on it, I had to stand frozen in one specific position, or else I was not heard. With my new Nokia, I can walk all over my house. This might not be a problem in urbanized areas, but since where I live is pretty rural, I need the best signal possible.
~ the camera isn't the best - it's pretty fuzzy - my new nokia takes better pictures
~ it has a bad reputation, which makes me really uncomfortable - I was almost afraid to use it!
While I did not really have this phone long enough to give it a proper rating, I realized that although a beautiful phone, it just probably wasn't the one for me.
Can you hear me now? NO!
What a horrendous phone! I went through 2 of these with my Alltel service. It was a replacement for my old Moto V60. The 8910 jumps from 1 bar to no service in my house. My V60 always had a great signal. I drive for a living and would miss more than 50% of my calls. I'd get voicemail notification later! After 12 days of 8910 nightmares, I switched to a Moto V262 and have had no problems since! Stay away from this phone! No RF!!!!
PS My fiance bought this phone even after I told her to avoid it...guess what? I ring straight to voicemail! Alot! And it shows no service on the first floor of my home! My Moto next to it has nearly a perfect signal! Pathetic!
Great Phone w/ Virgin
I got this phone for an early Xmas present and i love it, it had so many kool features!! i love the cool frames for the pix, the vioce memo i use as a song recorder, i use the web browser alot, and i love all the games and wallpaper and ringtones i can download! it's so cool! ive used someone elses phone from alltel that was an 8910 and it is nothing like mine, mine is so much better! i would deff. recomend this phone to anyone who dosent wanna big overpriced bill at the end of every month and still wants all the cool features!!! my phone was only $99 at radioshack.. however the network is a lil sloppy, its all digital and that can be a problem going into an area that has many trees or mountains, but if you live in the city or somewhere without a forest near by, then the phone will work lovely, the phones speaker quality is great and.. the camera is a great lil buddy!! you can choose three diff qualitys, from small medium or large,(smaller the pix the more it holds) i love the metalic blue cover... if your thinking about going to virgin mobile DEFFINATELY DO IT! and buy the flasher V7 !!!! oh and i used to have the Audiovox 8610 and it is poo, dont buy it, its cheap fealing and the flip wears and there is no Virgin XL.. which i could never live without.. well thats all for now, anymore Q's.. IM me for AIM on UncleKoolAidKool kk BYE!
No No No
This phone doesn't get good reception. Drops a lot of call. I have only had it for about 5 months and it is starting to shut itself off. I do not like this phone!
Audiovox 8910
I live in Canada, so my carrier is Bell Canada.
Originally I went to Bell, because my sister had an Audiovox 8600, and I really liked it, so I was hoping to get one!
It turned out that Bell had discontinued the 8600, so they suggested I got this one.
At first I was happy because it had a Camera and was fairly affordable. Then I realized how bad of a phone it was.
I have had to send in the phone for warranty twice so far, and I have only owned it for 3 months. The first time Audiovox completely replaced my phone, yet me new phone had the exact same problem. I couldn't look at my pictures or my phone book, the phone just shut off and restarted.
PROS
1. Has a camera
2. Full Colour Screen
3. Fairly Good Battery Life
CONS
1. UGLY Keypad Light
2. Very "Bulky"
3. Camera doesn't take that good of pictures.
4. Horrible Reception
5. Stupid Ringtones
6. Cheaply Build.
All in all, I would suggest getting a completely different phone, and even though people say the 8600 isn't very good, I asked Bell to get me one to replace my 8910.
tied for worst phone I've ever owned
I recently got the Audiovox 8910 as a replacement after I dropped my LG VX6000. I thought the Audiovox sounded comparable to the LG, Wrong! This phone's battery doesn't hold a charge for 2 days and I use the phone very little. This seems to be a common problem with this phone. The antenna is very flimsy and the phone is quite ugly and bulky. I have owned about 6 phones with Verizon and this is the 2nd one that has had reception and signal issues. (The other one was that phone that is tied with this one as worst, a Motorola e120). I don't get a signal inside the house at all, but my husband's samsung has a full signal inside. I never had signal problems with my any of LGs or samsungs that I have previously owned. The sound quality is OK, but not the best. The camera is actually pretty good and the menus are easy to use. Overall, I am not happy with this phone and do plan to upgrade as soon as possible.
PROS: good camera, Ok sound, easy menus
CONS: Everything else
Audiovox Review
Just received this phone from Alltel. We needed to upgrade from the Nokia phone which was a great phone. This phone does not have the reception that the Nokia had.
I live in a Rural Michigan and it drops calls and people state they cannot hear you. The Nokia never dropped a call. The speaker phone function is not very loud. Antenna is flimsy. Getting ready to trade the phone in because Alltel has a 15 day trial period. We were not impressed.
Nice Phone for Anyone!
This is my first cell phone (my parents bought it for me) and I would say it's overall a very good phone.
I had originally been looking at the Samsung 690, but that didn't happen to be in my parent's price range. I was a little apprehensive about an audiovox, but it turned out to be a nice phone.
Pro's:
-The large inside screen displays bright colors. I want to emphasize how big the screen is. It's probably larger than all my friends' cells. (Not like I'm comparing or anything.)
-The practical outside screen is monochrome, making it easy to see wherever you are. The color outside screen on the Samsung 690 seemed to be fairly washed-out. The screen will also light up by pressing the volume buttons located on the side. At a glance you can observe the time, date, day, battery level, ringer type, and signal strength on the external screen. Also, you can take self-portraits with it, by holding the outside camera button, when the phone is closed.
-The phone is a camera phone of course, and it takes decent pictures. If there is ever a time when you just wished you had your camera, this phone has tried to make it quick and easy to take those pictures. As for printable pictures, this phone isn't really good for that. And if I were you, I would turn the flash off for good.
-The battery life is really good, at least for the ways that I use it, which is mainly for calls and the included features. Unless I'm taking lots of pictures, I can get several days out of the battery.
-The colors used in this phone are really nice, and the three menu style options lets you customize the menu to the way you like it.
Con's:
-The face of the phone is kind of ugly.
-The keypad isn't the most attractive thing in the world. I really liked the Samsung 690's keypad, but oh well.
-There is not a great selection of wall papers or ring tones.
If you get this phone turn the ERI banner off first thing. All it does is flash Verizon Wireless everywhere.
