One Sweet Phone
I just recently picked up this phone and couldn't be happier with what i got. The price is surprisingly low on such a quality piece of equipment.
Pros
-Camera is good for VGA
-No ugly antenna!
-I love almost everything about it?
CONS
-Hard to open with one hand
-Not as customizable as i would like
-Ringers that come with it are lame
-No games, only demo's
Overall i love it, but its not perfect. Everyone i show it to loves it as much as i do though.

I like it but no Blue Tooth
I really like this phone. All the features are excellent. The phone book is extremely detailed and holds a lot of info for each contact. It also takes very good quality photos. The video is really good too. The only thing I don't like about this phone is that is doesn't have Blue Tooth Technology. I have a motorola with blue tooth and I love using the wireless earpiece. If the Z500a came with that capapbility, it would be top of the line for my use. Over all its an excellent phone!
GREAT PHONE!
this phone is great! at first i was a little apprehensive because of the size, but when compared to the motorola v500 (i think, the navy blue), the picture id on the sony ericsson won!
pros:
-size: now, i like it..comfy to hold

-built VERY sturdy, dropped my fone so many times..no scratches at all
-pretty light for camera/video phone
-nice themes

cons:
-dust can get in easily..
-cheesy ringtones (but www.sonyericsson.com has free ringtones..those are nice!)
-camera/video are okay, but it's better than nothing
-i personally dont like the way the phone clicks when it opens, but others might like it
overall, i love this phone, i hated the size before, but now that i think about it, its alot easier to hold..
Great phone for the price!
I bought this phone for 70 dollars with a 2 year contract... I've been with Cingular since they were bellsouth and 2 years contract is nothing. I chose this phone because of its Push to talk capabilities and i am hoping that when cingular launchers their PTT, I will be able to use this phone with their PTT... I hope, i might have to send it back to sony so they can upgrade the software... but i am sure when cingular launches their ptt, that the phones they of will be quite expensive. here's a summary of what i thought about the phone...

although this really shouldnt be a con, no bluetooth or infrared (this would have made the price go higher, so i really shouldnt complain)
can get dust underneath outside caller display (but faceplate comes off so you can clean, its just kinda annoying)

Thats all i can think of.. but for a 70 dollars, this is a very good phone for the average power user. You can check email and use instant messenger, plus you can even create your own ringtones, its pretty cool. HOpe this helps with anyone wanting to purchase this phone!!

Horrible experience all around! I had a Motorola V600 through AT&T. When Cingular merged, I saw an offer for this phone. I own and love Sony products, and have always wanted a Sony flip phone. Very disappointed with the big, cheap, plastic phone that was delivered. By the way, Cingular had a deal for $84.99 with mail-in-rebate. They charged my debit $84.99 three times (!) plus $191.24 which I later found out was the original price of the phone. Cingular was not at all apologetic, it's taken me about a week of calling their customer service repeatedly, to fix the error. I've dropped the service and can't wait to mail this phone back! It's not at all what I'd expect from Sony. Terrible camera view. Very dark and grainy. Not the best wallpapers or ringtones. Low variety. Huge plastic key pad which makes it difficult to navigate. Please rethink getting this phone. I guess that's what I get for ordering online. It looked better on my computer screen than in person! I'm lucky Cingular has a 30-day return policy, otherwise I'd be stuck with a crappy phone & with a crappy service provider.
A+++ I LOVE THIS PHONE
I recently switched to Cingular service here in Jackson, MS in February and got this phone for a mere $29 after rebates. I went with the z500 because I know Sony is top notch. I previously had a Motorola and I hated it to say the least. This Sony does everything I needed it to for the price. I wasn't interested in spending $200-300 for a phone, so I wanted something simple but effective for less than $100.
PROS
-Reception is Excellent. I have almost full bars everywhere.
-Call quality is superb
-Mp3 and MIDI tones are LOUD!! and you can still use the Vibrate function at the same time
-Memory storage is outstanding. I have about 40 ring tones with room for more
-Love the internal antenna
-Internet is SUPER FAST with EDGE!!
-Ability to select and customize different profiles like Nokia phones
-Just about every feature and button is customizable!
-Sturdy construction, doesn't feel cheap in your hand
CONS
-No ability to select Speaker phone until other party is on the line, then you have to keep saying Yes because of a stupid warning message about loud noise hurting your ear
-Can't put annual recurrences in Calender (i.e Birthday's)
-Screen could be a bit brighter or have the ability to adjust the contrast/brightness
-Camera/Video is kind of fuzzy, but what do you expect from a VGA camera phone
-Buttons should be raised instead of recessed. Kind of makes it cumbersome to text or dial with one hand.
Despite the few CONS, the PROS more than outweigh them. I can deal with the CONS because I keep in mind that this is a cell phone that I only paid $29 for after rebates. I AM VERY HAPPY with the Sony z500.
The Winner.
Hmm, where to start with this phone. Being an X426 user for 2 years, and liking that, then switching to this, I couldn't have made a better choice.
Pros - SOLID build, I mean this thing doesn't budge. It's not like some of the other cheap flip phones out there that wobble or creak (like the V551 I had for one day before returning that for this).
Call quality - amazing. I'm stunned by this, because it really does a great job in the sound. No buzzes or anything, just, the other person's voice. Sounds good.
Reception - again, amazing. I've messed with some phones where I put my hand completely over the top of the phone to block out the signal, then I take my hand off to see if it can regain. Some phones never regain their signal. This one does, immediately. It has signals in places my X426 didn't, such as down here in the basement.
Screen - pretty darn good, to me it's a typical color screen. Does the job, and looks good. The outside screen is color, too.
Cons - The camera quality isn't the best, but being that feature means nothing to me it didn't really phase me.
Other than that, I really can't say anything bad about this phone. With every phone I've had, there's been something where I wish it was a little different. With this one, there's nothing. Not a bad phone, especially for 50 bucks (2 year agreement + 30 dollar rebate).

I love this phone....It was in my price range and is great!! best phone ive ever had (old phones were nec 525...a nokia...a moto..and a kyocera)

Z500a
I've had this for a short time now and all can say is WOW! My first SE and I don't regret my decision at all. This phone is all GOOD! The only thing that disappointed me was the battery life was 3-4 days only.
