One awesome phone with alot of features
So I have had this phone just over a week now and no major complaints as of yet. Before this phone I v710 and let me tell you that was one phone with too many problems. This phone has had no glitches like those of motorola. The phone also gets a lot of cool looks like what is that or that is really cool how that flips open.
Pros:
Keyboard- easy to use and fast at text messaging.
inside screen - huge and bright
speakers- loud and great
battery- lasts a very very long time
camera- takes really good pictures especially compared to the motorola.
memory- phone memory is huge plus the memory cards are bigger no problems with memory like i had with the motorola.
lots of cool features like bluetooth messaging, auto lock for outside keys and more.
cons:
outside screen- too small
size - bulky
reception- not as good as th motorola but still good
no case available- the cases that are available are really bad especially since you need to protect this 400 dollar phone.
LG- south korean company not american but which ones are?
Good Phone with Great Future Potential
I switched from an LG vx8100 to this phone because i wanted the qwerty keyboard for text messaging and the like. I've had the phone for two days and so far so good except for one minor hiccup: I put in a mini sd card that I had used in a motorola mpx220 because it was a bigger capacity and it worked fine for a couple of hours. Then all of a sudden every time you tried to go to the mp3 player or the camera, the phone kept restarting itself. Then a little bit later phone wouldn't ring when people called me. I went to the verizon store and they couldn't figure it out either, so i just put in a brand new mini sd card that and all the issues went away.
Overall, i think this a pretty good multipurpose phone as it is. However, i think with a few modifications LG could have themselves a top notch communications/multimedia device. Here would be my suggestions for the vx9900:
1. More refined PDA capabilites: I had read a report a couple of months back about LG and Palm signing a deal to collaborate on some future smartphones. A device with this form factor would be an excellent candidate to for Palm OS or even Windows Mobile 5.0.
2. Multimedia: The MP3 player in it's current form is acceptable, but some more advanced features, such as playlists, would be a nice touch. And more options for video playback (Windows Media Player 10, anyone?)
3. Wi-Fi: Not a deal breaker in my eyes since it already has EV-DO, but if they can get it on here without it affecting the weight or size of the phone, why not?
4. Flight mode: So you could listen to MP3's on an airplane, for example.
5. Camera: The one on here is good enough for a camera phone, but heck let's make it an even 2 megapixels for next time.
If they could get all that on the next version of this phone, and memory cards keep getting bigger, I think LG will not only have a treo/blackberry killer, but a leave-the-laptop-at-home device as well.
Closest to a PDA without the price
I was looking for a phone with blue tooth, camera, and the ability to keep my schedule and contacts up to date - email for review - but not daily work.
Although the $19.99 wireless sync cost was unexpected, I did get it set up tonight and it worked well. It pulled just under 200 contacts down quickly. I don't have much email in the account I am trying this with, but I assume it will be a similar speed.
The phone itself feels good in your hand, built well, and of substance. The internal keyboard has a nice feel to it, both in size and touch.
I haven't played with each setting much as of yet - the sync took a while to set up. But you can set individual pictures and ring tones for each contact.
It doesn't come with any kind of data cable, and there isn't one on the site - but other phones have come out with data packages a few months after they are launched.
I am coming off a Samsung i600 - and do like the bluetooth (easy to train and use the headset) and camera. I can browse to my corporate web email OMA site.
All in all it looks like the best almost PDA on the market. You compromise screen size for the camera, pocket size, and lower cost.
That's my quick .02
Love it...
Okay, so I got it. Am I going to keep it?
Here's the slideshow/pics...too tired to write a lenghty review. Also, I forgot to take shots of the back of the unit (camera).

PROS
- Great screen
- Loud MP3 Player - EQ is fun
- Pics are fantastic
- EVDO fast - supa fast!
- Super cool
CONS
- Keyboard keys are too spread apart - need to "reach"
- Awkward placment of Space key
- Mush keys on the phone keypad
- Mini SD (not really that bad)
- EVDO reception seems weak compared to my i730 - I don't get coverage when my i730 does
LG the V
I don't usually write product reviews, but for this phone, I feel obliged to. I had the chance to get to know this phone for almost a month now. In my opinion, best all-around phone in the market for VZW so far. Just recently got the mini-SD to listen to my MP3s. Great sound from the speakers!!!
Pros:
* smaller than the Treo
* bright 18-bit color screen
* long-enough battery life
* qwerty thumbpad (easy for scheduling)
* text-to-speech (speaks out who's calling)
Cons:
* very slow shutter speed
* MP3 player - no folders to org. song genres
phone is fantastic :)
theres WAY to many pros for this phone to list, but theres a few things i dont like about it, these are small and iam being picky
1= mp3/ringers are not loud AT ALL :(
2= camera could be a little better, but is good
3= needs a spearker option when phone is closed
4= reception, ok????
but all around is a fantastic phone, its well worth $199.99
The best damn phone i have ever owned
The Lg VX9800 is the best phone i have ever used. it is the most user friendly and it literally rocks. i love it!!
Good Gadget phone
I just got this phone a few days ago. I went from a Treo 600 to this one thinking I would save money on the wireless email sync. Didn't realize I still have to pay $19.99 for it. Which is still cheaper than the pda/smartphone package at $45. It is a neat little phone, and by far the best phone for gadgets that Verizon offers, leaving out the pc or pda phones. I wouldn't recommend going from one of those phones to this one. It does have a calender and is easy entry, but it just isn't the same as the pda features. I did miss the get it now that I didn't have with the treo, but its not worth the price of the phone to have get it now. I have excellent reception, which is one reason I would keep it.
Pros:
Size, smaller than it looks in pictures
screen is great. camera is ok. seems a little dark. easy menu. I like the 3 alarms it had, and could set them weekdays only. The little speaker don't sound half bad.
Voice commands are great. text to speech is cool. Battery seemed to go for days with high use.
Cons:
The keys are small in the front, so big fingers, forget about it. you will be able to dial, but sending and any menus buttons will give you a hard time. The directional key pad was not to easy to use. I even have small fingers.
True there is limited Get it now options, but that will change. You have to leave it flipped open to have the speaker phone on, which is not too bad. limited menu options on front display.
I will probably return it and go with the Treo 650. More phone for the just a little more cash. Well worth it. If you have any other phone, then upgrade to this one. Palm phone users stay away. You will be disappointed.
Make other geeks jealous!
This is the first cell phone that I can actually hear clearly with! My wife and I had gone to text messaging, since my hearing has been slipping, but this phone is good enough that I can make calls. Text messaging is great though, allowing for simple SMS but also messages with sounds, photos or video.
A neat feature lets the phone announce who is calling. I love sitting in a meeting and hear âDonna callingâ and everyone starts looking for the lady who is talking.
This phone, so advanced in other ways, has the worst camera I've ever used. The video is even worse.
The phone has a pretty good sounding MP3 player with its little stereo speakers. It would be even better through headphones. But I really cannot see using all of my battery life on music.
Other tools on the phone are a calendar, a notepad, and 3 alarms. It will never replace your PDA, but it is good for a travel alarm or to remind you to take your medicine.
The address book allows 1000 contacts, I donât even like 1000 people! I do like that each contact stores 5 numbers, 2 e-mail addresses and picture ID.
You can pair up to 20 Bluetooth devices to the phone, but like the address book this is over-kill. I bought the earphone and the salesperson said that I could get over 30 feet away from the phone with it. But why would I ever WANT to be 30 feet away from my baby!
The battery usage time is rated over 4 hours and standby time up to 8 days. But that is only if you arenât playing with it constantly, so I havenât got a chance to test. I canât leave this phone alone! Even using the web, text messages, and calls, I can go two or three days without a charge.
The first week that I had it, I made two other geeks totally jealous of my phone. It was worth every penny! A third person saw me demonstrating my phone and said âAh, man! I should have waited. I just got this crappy Motorola Razor!â Now when someone calls the Moto Razor a crappy phone, I know that I made the right decision.
Finally
I've coveted this phone for a year. Although I've used work cells since the last century I had not found anything worth buying myself. This phone was $300 last year. We bought two for $50 (w/ a new for two years) last week.
Previously been using an 8100, so I knew bitpim, had a cable, and knew how to tweak it out. And had it cranked in a day.
Free WAP with HoTTProxy rocks, even at 1X.
The card reader feature is nice. The text to speech is cute.
The camera is faster than the 8100 and the keypad rocks.
I've used a PDA since the HP95LX back in the early 1990's, thus thumb typing is second nature.
The display, though the same size as the 8100 is landscape oriented, much better for my use.
I've actually used the notepad and voice recorder.
Bluetooth is good, that's about the only con - no stereo bluetooth :(
This was like getting 2 basic PDA's and two phones.
