Sanyo Katana / SCP-6600
Average Ratings
Solid Performer
This phone has great reception and good voice quality. The phone esthetically pleasing. The menu is easy to navigate, although I find blue tooth set up a little cumbersome Compared to other phones I've had Sagem, and Blackberry's etc. The screen is clear with nice colour.
This phone for me is a keeper.
I love this phone
Pros: Sound quality is awesome, nice and loud. Good variety of ringtones. Slim, batter lasts a long time. Variety of beautiful colors available. It has all the bells and whistles that you would want out of a great sounding regular cell phone.
My carreir is Sprint.
Cons: If you use a standard 2.5mm headset, you must use the included adaptor. If you loose the adaptor, good luck getting one!
NEVER BUY THIS PHONE EVER
this phone is absolutely horrible!!!!
i work for sprint and ever since this phone came out, every customer that has called in over it complains. i lie to you not..
customers constantly complain about dropped calls. low volume, keys hard to press you name it. there is something wrong with it. one customer called in the other night and bought a brand new phone for 300.00 so she could get rid of it. yeah it may be stylish and new but it is not worth a dime you couldnt give this phone to me for free. worst phone ever i promise NEVER buy this phone ever because you are gonna be stuck with it for two years and it is going to make your life miserable.... im warning you in advanced!!!! please spare yourself from this junk!!!!!!
sprint katana
I dont personally have this phone, but I am in the cell phone business and I sell it.
Pros:
-Good reception
-looonnngggg battery life
-easy to use
-made very solid
-tri-band
-colors are nice
cons:
-I have yet to find a phone that takes pictures but not videos and I came accross this phone...
-screen is horrible
-the packeging that it comes with sucks
-buttons are the worst part. You cant even type a letter without a mistake.
-Speaker is not loud enough. Or maybe because is built behind the phone.
The "Kool" Katana
This phone is one of the best phones on the market. I would like to remind people that phones are meant for talking and communicating, not for listening to music, watching videos, or taking professional pictures. There are other electronics for that.
The Katana is a RAZR and better if you think about it. Most people buy the RAZR because it is popular. Well, the Katana is cheaper and nicer looking, all for a lower price. I will get to the positives and negatives of this wonderful phone.
PROS:
- This phone is ultra slim and very light weight
- Inexpensive
- Nice features
- Available in four nice colors.
- Nice quality for backgrounds
- Big, clear screen
- 5MP for storage (plenty for non-MP3 player phone)
- 500 phone book entries
- Nice design
- You can close the phone while taking a photo
- Nice quality for texting/calling
- Looks like a RAZR from a distance and even from the side (for people who have this phone , but want a RAZR)
CONS:
- Low ringtones - although I can still hear them
- No flash on camera
That is about it. This phone is nice compared to the RAZR. I don't like how the RAZR makes it look like the screen on the front is huge, but then it is only a square in the middle. I also like this phone better because it is different. All I hear anymore is "Oh my! You got a RAZR!" or "I want a RAZR!" Try the Katana. You'll like it.
I will go even further:
Call Quality: Excellent
Design: Excellent
Features: Great
Camera: Good
Service: Great
Storage: Great
Volume: Good
Screen: Excellent
Portability: Excellent
Overall: Excellent!
This phone is a nice phone. People who want an MP3 player or 5MP camera, get those electronics. There are MP3 players and iPods for music and digital cameras for photographers. Phones are for one purpose - communication.
So-So
Pros:
*Great look
*Fave color is pink, so I obviously have that
*Good texting
*Great signal; never drop a call
*Great picture quality
Cons:
*HORRIBLE RINGTONE QUALITY. This is the main reason I am hating this phone right now. You have to use the factory ringtones because the ones from Sprint online, even the poly ones, are so low you can't hear them. I am beyond frusterated because of this.
*Vibrate function does not always work
*Screen sometimes freezes
*While pic quality is good, it sometimes has a weird color tint to it.
Ok, bottom line: This phone looks great. It sounds great. But if you like the option of ringtones (at 20, I still want fun ringtones), don't bother.
It has its good qualities but I haven't even had it a year and I'm already looking for a different phone.
Katana, not for the media user.
If you like to talk on the phone, take the occasional picture, and do some texting then this phone is for you. But if you're out there for a media phone, this is NOT for you. I had the A900 and after it was run over by a car, I was given a new Katana as a gift. Right out of the package it was amazing. But after trying to do even a fraction of what the a900 could do i was VERY disappointed. Not only was the camera-picture quality horrible, but there's not flash. Then I tried to browse the web (note this was before the Java upgrade) and I couldn't view anything that used Java-script. (Which was virtually anything) Not to mention there was no MP3, and you cant even view media! So there goes half of the perk of its quick picture mail.
On the pro side, It was a very durable phone (i dropped it several times :whoops:)It was quick with the text messages (and a t9 that actually remembers new words). It also is a very good looking phone, and has a more balanced weight to it than... say, the Razr.
I ended up returning, getting a partial refund (Sprint bought it back as a refurb), and upgrading to the A900M (from the A900) Which i can say, I am very happy with.
Slightly disappointed
Overall, this is a pretty decent phone, however, having been a Sprint customer for 5+ years, I have had many Sanyo phones and many flip phones. Going from a smaller flip phone, it takes some time getting used to the shape of the Katana. You definitely know it's square, that's for sure!
Some other cons are:
1. No flash on the camera, and the sound quality on the ringers is horrible. I have to actually use the horrible polyphonic ringtones that the phone came with because NO other ringtone can be heard when the phone rings due to the speaker being on the back of the phone.
Returning it after one week...
I loved the phone when I got it. However, after one week some major problems have come up. My phone does not recognize phone numbers in my contact list so I have no idea who is calling me. I took my phone back to the sprint store and they told me that I already have to send it in to be repaired. This is after only one week.
Pros:
Good texting: it allows you to add new words to T9
Good sound quality
Cons:
This phone has a horrible ring volumn. The speaker for the ring is on the back of the phone and when placed face up you can barely hear it. Ring volumn gets even worse when you play downloaded ring tones. I wish someone would have told me this before I bought the phone.
Great Phone
I just got this phone today. I really like. Very sleek! The call volume is excellent which is one of my biggest complaints about some phones. I read other reviews that said the speaker phone volume was low. Mine is fine. I did update the phone as soon as they activated it so maybe that fixed the issue. The call quality is crystal clear in addition to the speaker phone. The phone has a feature that allows you to restrict your incoming calls to only your contacts. Anyone that's not in your contacts will get shipped to voicemail and the phone doesn't ring. You have a missed call indicator, but that's it.
I'm not too thrilled about the plastic volume control and camera buttons on the side. The feel cheap.
