Best Phone Motorola Has Made so Far

Dec 18, 2006 by slickrick3422

After searching for 1 month of various Sprint phones. I narrowed it down to the Krzr and the Sanyo SCP-8400. With a great deal and a great look (professional). I ended getting the Krzr. I spent about 5 hours playing with it as I am a gadget freak and I summarize my findings.

Pro:
-There is NO LAG whatsoever (as opposed to what many says) in any menu or access. (Sprint servuce). The ONLY lag is when I press the camera button, it took about 3 second to powerup the camera. I had a moto V551 from Cingular for 2 years prior. The menu is exactly the same, but the menu response is soooo much faster than V551
-Slick look. Undeniablly professional looking compared to any other phones
-Has the slot for Microsd and the included Manual from Sprint clearly stated it supports 2GBYTE SD card support. I just need 1GB, but at least 2GB is officially supported
-Feels and look sturdy
-Works fine with MP3 and sounds just as well
-Took only 2 hours for a full charge
-Great reception and loud built-in speakers

Cons:
-Fingerprints on the front glass panel. Unavoidable
-Why the hell did they skimp on the headset/emu adapter. Cheap [...] bastards. Trying to milk us for the higher margin accessories

In summary, I found the phone to be exactly what I wanted and it had NONE of the problems as stated in many reviews here. Maybe it's sprint, maybe it's updated firmware. Originally, I was always weary of all those "problems" from all the reviews. It had none...Except for the fact it can't do FM transmission.

Anyways, I may find something later as I use it more. However, as it stands. This is a almost perfect phone for professionals who wanted some gadgetry as well.

I got this phone this morning after debating whether to get this or wait for the 9900/8600 but realized if I dont like it, I can bring it back within 15 days.

The Good:
Design - Very sleek, sexy design. Incredibly light and small and very comfortable to hold and have in your pocket.
Keypad - At first I did not like this design, but upon further use I got used to the flat buttons, and I can type and text faster.
Battery - Far better than what I got on my 8100, didnt even charge it and its been 14 hours of texting and talking consistently and its still going strong.
Reception - Very good, very consistent reception in all areas around where I live.
Bluetooth - Havent gotten to play around with this much yet, but it works and is easy.
Call Quality - Clear my end, and clear on their end or so they have said.

Can be Lived With:
Sound - Mediocre. Thats it. The one speaker on the back is loud...unless it is in your pocket then it is a little quiet and sometimes hard to hear. Not horrible, but should be better. Stereo speakers would be nice too.
Camera - Doesnt seem to be clear all the time, sometimes you can get a good shot though.
Vibrate - A little weak, I am in high school so I keep my phone on vibrate during school (text messages, etc) so vibrate is pretty important to me. It is nothing compared to the earthquakes my 8100 could start.
65k 16-bit - I wish it was 18-bit 262k but this can be lived with. The screen is clear, just I can sometimes see the lack of extra colors.
Music PLayer - I do not listen to music very much on my phone, as I have an iPod. I could not resist testing this feature though, and it is nice. The front buttons are a little sensitive, but the sound quality is good. It is in this section because I am not a cell phone music user.
The Bad:
External Display - Dim, pixellated and small.
Shiny - Why must people clean their phone off every 2 minutes? This is a great looking phone! Until you touch it.

SLOOOOOOOWWWWWW....

I think this phone is good for people who aren't as tech savy as some others. I like the sleek design and the lightweight feature of the phone, but it takes FOREVER to process anything. When sending a text, the screen freezes up and if you close the phone sometimes it wont even send the message! The program design is different from the rest of the Motorola Razrs and Krazrz and isnt as user friendly. It took me forever to figure out how to change the annoying sound when I get text messages. Its sturdy and a good starter phone I guess, but not for someone who expects a fast reliable phone.

Abysmal

This is the worst phone that Motorola put on the market. No wonder Verizon is selling these for $20 now!
I went through 4 of these before I finally re-activated my LG VX8100 back on my line!!

Cons:
- Locks up
- Finger Prints
- Music buttons did not work on the first phone
- Front screen will crack with the slightest fall; I dropped it on my desk and the screen cracked.
- Loud & Vibrate setting will make individual ringtone function be disabled.
- Buttons are very "slippery" and text messeges tend to have typos.
- Phone will shut off and re-boot without warning.
- Has problems sending text messeges at times.
- When trying to charge it, it will read "unauthorized charger" and Verizon states the phone will have to be replaced.
- When you load music onto the Micro SD, the phone will not read all of it. I put on around 200 songs, and the phone only read about 98 of them.

Pro:
- Music quality is great- once you get it to work.

This is one of the worst phones I have ever had in my life. My LG was with me on all sorts of fire calls, dropped down flights of stairs, rested in snowbanks, dropped out of fire trucks and is still in great shape. Why I ever wandered away from LG is beyond me. Save your money and don't be suckered by others reviews on this phone.

KRZR with POCKET

Mar 12, 2008 by motoguy75

Not a bad phone, lots of features. Only reason why I can't give this phone a 5 is because POCKET smart wireless does not support BREW.

PROS:
Big Display
Mp3 player rocks
Easy music navigation
Loud
Slim Form

CONS:
POCKET doesn't support BREW
Memory card under battery
Battery cover can be a hassle to remove

It's okay for what it does

I've owned the phone for about a year and had to replace it 7 times. Either it has been from the camera saying "no picture image" or from the battery not charging. The last two times were from the screen just going blank and if it wasn't for that micro SD memory card I wouldn't have any pics or videos. I'm currently with U.S. Cellular (know as sun-com in California and other west coast states)
Pros"
Wonderful pics during the day
Okay pics at night (just remember to use nightmode)
Touch button mp3 player
Bluetooth Exchange (OBEX)

Cons:
Videos aren't that great
MP3 player freezes at times
Finger print magnet
Doesn't work well with bluetooth earpieces except motorola
Sometimes you may notice a contact has been automatically deleted and you didn't do it.

Third time is the charm?

Ok, I got this phone with my "New Every Two" deal with Verizon wireless. I've always had LGs in the past, and was a little nervous about switching since I've always had great luck with LGs.

Pros: The phone sounds and looks great.

Cons: This is the first phone I've been put through the wringer with.

Try #1:

I fell in love instantly. Vocal quality was crisp. I felt like I'd finally gotten out of the tunnel with my cell phone. Within the first week I started playing around with getting some ring tones, and that's when trouble started. After downloading a ring tone program onto the phone it fried. It would no longer receive a signal, I couldn't get to my contacts list.. dead. I don't know if this was an issue with Verizon wireless software on the phone or what, but I had to take the phone back. Phone used less than 1 week.

Try #2:

I decided that hopefully this was just a fluke, so I got the same phone. I was hesitant to play with ringtones this time. I simply noticed it was down on charge and plugged it into my car charger (verizon brand). 30 minutes later the phone is fried. Won't even turn on.

Try #3:

Ok, I was getting skeptical that it was just flukes. I've had cell phones for the past 10 years and I've never had one fail on me. I've mostly used LGs though. I've even gotten them wet and they've bounced back. I still got another Motorola KRZR as a replacement simply because it was the best deal. I had this one for less than 4 days before I was going back to the store asking for another battery. Brand new phone battery was only lasting 24 hrs on standby. I thought it might possibly be the car charger, so I returned that too.

This was around 9/20/07. The beginning of January I had to get another battery because it went back to only lasting 24 hrs on standby. I don't always remember to charge the phone every day, and I think this is excessive.

This phone obviously has power issues. It doesn't last as long as it claims.

totaly awsome

This phone is the best ever.It has a slim and sexy design with hidden music buttons on the outside. The camera is also kind of hidden on top of the external display. The ring tones are also very loud but the vibrate could be stronger for me.

CONS:
you can see lots of smudges and scratches on this phone but mostly only if you look at it from direct light.

Verizon - What are you thinking? K1m

Aug 23, 2007 by Lowebotomy

Pros:
- Very capable phone (if not Verizon)
- A host of featres
- Good battery life

Cons:
- Verizon wireless has managed to reduce this phone to a paperweight in hopes that you will shell out more money through their buy it now services. Contrary to VZ's normally customer first attitude, the move to disable so many features on the phone, and the complete lack of software to use the phone's capabilities is enough to consider only buying this phone through another provider. I cannot express enough my displeasure in the numberous ways in which Verizon has disabled the mp3 features, ability to transfer music and completely cut the bluetooth capability for file transfer. Verizon provides no methods for getting your mp3's you already own onto the phone, unless you resort to using countless un-official patches which may or may not work.
- Verizon wireless user interface on the phone is slow, it can take up to half a minute to get a song playing by the time to navigate the poor software
- MP3 file names are limited in length and characters. If you are not careful you will have to repeatedly reload all of your music a little at a time over and over again
- The only problem with the phone itself is the mirrored piece that immediately shows smudges (always looks dirty), to include the camera lens. The oil from your fingers is enough to blur pictures if you are not CONSTANTLY cleaning it

I would not hesitate to recommend this phone if it is through a cellular service that allows you to use the full features of the phone.
