Good phone....not great
This phone is good, but not great at all.
Cons:
-The camera option is good, too bad there's not a flash for it also.
-The reception is something to be desired in certain areas, however I believe that has something to do Sprint's towers.
-When using the wireless web, the phone sometimes powers off and then right back on.
Pros:
-The vibrating alert function is awesome. The phone will literally vibrate off the table if you let it.
-The call clarity is absolutely wonderful. I've never had anybody say they can't hear me.
-Ringer and ear piece volume is absolutely extraordinary.
All in all, this phone is great for people who like to "play" with things.
THE BEST PHONE ON THE MARKET
I would like someone to tell me the what is better? I'm a dealer for cell phones. I have had T-Mobile, Nextel, Cingular (TDMA), and Sprint PCS. There is Sprint and then there is Sanyo Sprint. What I mean by that is that Sanyo in my opinion has the best phones on the market. They were the first to have a color phone and a camera with a flash. What I like about the 8100 is that it has almost all the features as the 5300 excluding the flash for a reasonable price. If you are considering this phone it is a must.

I really can't find any thing wrong with this phone other than its only carried through SPRINT PCS, and every one knows sprint sucks.

The only prob I have is (of corse) with Sprint, I cant got to www.mbuzzy.com and down load free stuff, (even though I should be able to) It keeps saying the files are too large, when I've seen other sprint pcs phones that have down loads from the web site.
Great Phone
Just left Verizon after 4 yrs to go on Sprint PCS' America plan and am getting 2000 anytime minutes for same price as Verizon's A.C. plan for 1100 minutes. Got the 8100 for my wife and I. My wife really liked her V60c and I had a 1 mth old LG 4400, both great phones. Well the Sanyo quality is undeniable, period. The standard battery gave me all it was supposed to on the first charge. The color of screen is great and the volume on ringers is terrific. My favorite thing is the super strong vibration mode.. I drive a truck and it is hard to know when phone is vibrating with most phones, but NOT with this 8100. Even in a leather case the vibration comes through very strong. Reception is very good.
The ONLY thing I wish they would change is the locking mode. LG has 1 button locking mode and that is why I have owned 2 LG's. Having to go through a 3 step process to lock your phone sucks, but I will live with it because the rest of the phone is so great. You can even buy the FM modulator, so your phone can be used as an FM radio.
Oh, my wife wanted to shoot me after just buying the $200 LG, but she loves this Sanyo and playing the games that came with it. My wife has NEVER been excited by any cell phone and that is the best recommendation I can give.
Sanyo 8100
I first started off with the Sanyo 4900 and what a phone. I then got talked into the 5300 because of the camera feature. The two biggest problems I had with the 5300 was the reception and the price I paid for it. When i heard Sanyo was releasing a very similar camera phone for half the price I sat back and waited. The 8100 is by-far the best phone I have ever had. Reception is very well for a flip-phone and the 65k tft screen is a plus. Currently I work for Alltel, and the build quality of a Motorola compaired to the 8100 is not even remotely close. As for the price of the 8100;an absolute steal.

Definitely a Keeper!
My Sanyo 8100 combined with Sprint's excellent service is more than perfect. I make and receive very clear calls and surf Vision's internet quickly with a touch of a button. This phone rocks! Camera is a plus, too!
**Fabulous Phone for a Fabulous Service**
I recently switched to Sprint from Verizon as the former is offering very good nationwide coverage minus roaming costs with the majority of the areas being digital, including unlimited PCS2PCS and nights & weekends. I bought the Sanyo SCP-8100 based on Sanyo's reputation for crystal-clear calls and faster Vision speed. And yes, Sprint's customer support representatives were particularly friendly and helpful in answering my questions and activating my phone.
Based on my experience, here are the PROs and CONs of my flashy Sanyo SCP-8100:
PROS
1. Sturdy built
2. Loud and clear ringers plus voice clarity
3. Strong signal with reliable signal meter
4. Excellent standard battery life
5. Beautiful pearl white and lavender color scheme
6. Fast downloads
7. Excellent 65k color display on both LCDs
8. Good camera resolution with optional voice msg.
9. Sprint's Vision combined with fast browser
10. More than enough phonebook memory
11. Side volume controls for avoiding calls when
necessary.
12. Portable size
13. Phone reminds me of being on a landline
14. So many other features I have yet to learn about!
CONS
1. Can't think of anything at this time that is related to
the phone.
Bottom line is: my Sanyo SCP-8100 performs its basic duties as a phone like a champ and carries out its advanced features like PCS Vision very well. Highly recommended!!!
Great Phone Could Be Better
For $100 I'll certainly admit that I got more than I payed for. The camera feature has proven to be a form of non-stop entertainment, and everything from the battery to the sound quality couldn't be better.
Where it falls short is in the area of messaging, which is as equally as important to me as placing calls. There is no ability to set up a short cut to your messaging, which forces you to open the web and wait for the separate options to download, then work with a sketchy text recognition that is certainly inferior to Nokia.
Also, the browser seems slightly behind the times, especially where MSN is concerned. Sprint has said that they are upgrading their system and should provide better services for AOL and MSN in the up-coming months. Hopefully this will solve some of these problems.
Lastly, the interface could use some serious customization options. As previously mentioned, not being able to set a short cut to messaging is a slight drawback, as is accessing just about anything else either in the phone or where the web is concerned.
With that said, I believe that the Sanyo 8100 could possibly be the best phone on the market currently if it would spend a little more time INTEGRATING with the web as opposed to simply having a button that connects to it.
GOOD LITTLE PHONE
I have had this phone for almost a month now and I have been pleased with it. It has great reception. Before I had this phone, I had the Kyocera 2345 and it sometimes had a hard time finding and keeping a signal. This phone never has that problem. It finds a
Sprint tower immediately when you turn it on and I have never seen it kick into roaming or search for service--unless I actually have been out of Sprint's area. The 2345 searched and roamed even in Sprints area. And the 2345 had trouble connecting to a tower when I first turned it on alot of times.
Some other things I like about this phone are its color display---much crisper than its cousin -the Sanyo 4900 (I had one of those too) The browser seems to be faster than the 4900 as well . I also like the earpiece volume--it sounds great. The battery life is also good.
The only two things that I wish that this phone had that it descent are a speakerphone and a flash and/or zoom on the camera. I have found that when using the camera if the lighting is not just right, the pictures do not turn out very well. They are still not bad though for not having a flash. Those are the only 2 things that keep this phone from getting a 5. And those aren't really that big of a deal when you compare the price of this phone at 199.99 to the price of its other camera cousin --the Sanyo 5300-- at 399.99 . It is an affordable alternative to the 5300 if you want a camera phone
Wow What a Phone
Having been a T-mobile customer for sometime, i became tired of the constant dead spots that come with gsm so i jumped to sprint which at the time was offering the lg for like free. I grew tired of the lg and i upgraded to the samsung n400. That phone was ok but I have recently upgraded to the 8100, and i am blown away by this phone.
The signal strength is wonderful, the battery life is 10 times better than my old samsung, and the reception in the ear piece is a lot clearer. In the week i have had the phone I have only had 3 dropped calls and that was because I went to my basement and its all concrete and plaster. The display is brilliant and the ringers are crisp and very definite unlike some of the other sprint models. And the phone handles voice-tones very well
