Sony Ericsson T637
Average Ratings
Good all-around phone
This is a good phone for just about any user. I purchased it from Cingular with a contract, and I use it in Wisconsin, US.
Pros:
- EXCELLENT Bluetooth support. Syncs with my Powerbook, transfers ringtones, pictures, etc. flawlessly, and I can use it with my laptop as to get on the internet with GPRS!
- Stylish form-factor. I really like how it looks and feels. Yes it is plastic, but it feels sturdy in my hands. The buttons are glossy which is strange at first, but they grew on me quickly.
- Nice screen. Its easy to read anywhere.
- Reception. If you get a stable signal, even one bar, this phone will make a clear call. As usual with (USA) GSM, it generally works better in areas with 850MHz coverage.
- Joystick Navigation. It is really quite efficient once you get to know the phone. I like how this phone doesn't have 20 different buttons on the front like some flip phones.
Neutral:
- Decent battery life. It seems to last a few days on average. I make some calls, text messages and use AIM most of the time. Unfortunately, I don't really have any other phone to compare it to, but it seems pretty good.
- Somewhat quiet ringtones and vibration. They could increase this a bit I think, but I've never missed a call with it sitting in my pocket.
Cons:
- Lack of 900MHz. I think this would be much more useful than 1800MHz. I solved this problem by buying a cheap Sagem 900MHz GSM phone on EBay for my relatively infrequent international travel. If you really want to take your phone overseas, this will be a problem.
- Camera. Horrible quality. Again I don't have much to base this on, but I have seen and used friends' camera phones and they all seem better. Don't count on it for anything useful.
This is a great phone. Don't buy anything but S-E if you want to use Bluetooth, as you will see from reading reviews of other phones.
works pretty well with T-Mobile
I bought this phone because nokia 6820 has severe problem on bt with Dell
this phone, on the other hand, works pretty well with Dell Axim
RF is pretty good too, it works pretty well on T-Mobile 1900
GPRS is class 8, good enough to work as modem
I read somebody complain the headset need to plug into the expansion port, but since I have bt headset, this is not a problem
the LCD looks excellent, and readable under sunlight
no speakerphone is not good, while moto and nokia has speakerphone even with low price model
if you want to use the phone with T-Mobile, make sure the phone is unlocked, and go to T-Mobile configurator, or just go to SE support page, and download the configurator
you can transfer the ringtone (supports .mid) and pics, only 2MB memory is too few, and missing mp3 ringsound support is another minus
even it misses some cool features, I still give 96/100, because it's pretty good for basic bt phone
pro:
good RF, even with T-Mobile
excellent bluetooth, no matching problem like 6820
simple and plain button layout
excellent LCD
32 chord ringtone
con:
no speakerphone
no dedicated dial/hangup button
very limited memory
can use ONLY one GPRS APN for modem
"where is the ring-ring?"
good phone, just not for me.
After a month of hell with Sprint I decided to switch to AT&T wireless. I picked up the T637. I had it for about 3 weeks, it was a decent phone, it just wasn't for me.
PROs
Good color screen
Nice ringtones
bluetooth
IR
very nice signal strength
small
ringtone composer
CONs
The image quality was not even close to decent
menus were slow and would cause the phone to freeze up for a few minutes
not very customizable
Excellent Phone
This is the best phone I've ever had. I have Cingular in the Houston area and I get great signal.
Pros: easy to use ,great reception, large screen, easy to use buttons, loud speaker (compared to Nokia 6200), comes with more games than most phones, bluetooth is easy to use
Cons: Camera could be a little better, internet doesn't take full advantage of screen size (with Cingular)
Overall this is a great phone. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a phone with a large feature set but still wants their phone to be easy to use.
