Great Features Crappy Reception

Aug 25, 2006 by hurlman

First I have had this phone for about 4 months and used it in about 20 different states in the US. I consider this a pretty thorough testing period.

Pros:
Great Features
Good quality of build (mine has taken a beating)
Love the MP3
512mb card include
Big Screen

Cons:
Gets much worse reception than my nokia 6230
Reception
Reception
When switching towers often drops calls
Design means face grease and for females, makeup, gets all over screen
Hard to see screen in bright light
Cannot use bluetooth headsets with music (apple you suck)
Badly placed mic (you lefties are lucky and it favors you)

Overall I love this phone, now if they made one with a better antenna in it. Maybe a new revision will have it.

-when using multiple apps it freezes up
-don't use all of the storage cause it'll slow it down

Not bad, as long as you run Windows....

Ok, I love the phone, it's small, its got iTunes, bluetooth, a handy little headset, my problems: I use a PowerBook (yes, that means I run Mac OS X) and the only thing I can do with it is put on songs and palylists via itunes and sync the contacts thru iSync... Motorola offers absolutely NO support for the Mac OS X, which is kinda dissapointing... Their phone tools product, which lets you make and put ringtones and backgrounds on your phone, it's only if you're running a Windows OS.... Hmmmmm.... Am I the only one slightly annoyed at that....

AMAZING!

Out of all the phones I've had this has to be the best. When I first got it I was a little worried, all of my candy bar phone's screens always got scratched up within a week but my SLVR's screen is still free of blemishs two months later. When on break my friend was playing with a high powered magnet (used for clothing censors) and my phone got stuck to it, naturally he pulled it off as fast as he could and it soared across the room. I picked it up and guess what! Still perfect condition! Later at work, I went to check the time and dropped it on the marble floor, picked it up and still nothing wrong with it. A few weeks later I was sitting at my PC with my phone in my lap and forgot about it, when I stood up it fell onto our hardwood floor and yet again nothing happened. I really like the raised numbers for some reason. It'll last me about 3 days on a single charge (I don't spend a whole lot of time on the phone though)

Honestly the only cons I can find are

#1 It sounds weird but the keyboard gets pretty scratched up.

#2 The speaker feature isn't very loud

#3 The volume buttons are kinda hard to push but that might just be the way I push them or something.

Really the only cons

Great I love it

I brought the phone because I did not want to carry all the devices that the phone has. I only brought flip phones because I did not like having it hanging on my side, but the case I brought, Bytech sits away from the body. The only problems I see with it is the volume, is kind of low, with the earphone/ mic. When you get a call you cant hear the ring tone through the headset, so in a crowded bus makes it kind of hard to know you have a call. And most of all can't they make a headset/mic that is a full head set!!! I hate putting things in my ears I like my music LOUD!!! it is nice that they give you another plug to use your regular headphones, but when you get a call you have to unplug it. other then those minor problems it's a GREAT Phone!!

everything and more

Love this phone! Got one for me, one for my husband, and we're both very satisfied. I needed a phone that's easy to carry and allows conversation over noisy kids, he needed a phone that fit into a shirt pocket for work.
It has Great Sound on both ends of the call. I love the Amazing quality of picture on the display screen and in the quality of the photos this camera takes. People that say it's not great are probably not using the camera correctly.
This phones only shortcoming is its manual. It reads like a bad translation.
I only use the Itunes when I go out walking. Super fast download speed on those tunes and Internet info.
It needs a protective wrap because the metal scratches easily (maybe I'll try that Helicopter blade shield stuff.)
It's so thin I keep forgetting I put it in my pocket! It has features I haven't used but the quality of the sound is the best I've ever had. When I get a Bluetooth headset I will have achieved nirvana.
I bought this phone even though it seemed like overkill because I will eventually use it's features.
I'm a former Nokia user and not a fan of flip phones so this is a dream come true.

Love this phone

I just updated my phone from a Nokia 3360 after having it for almost 5 years.(It worked great so I figured why change it...)After much research, I decided this phone would be a great upgrade. It's fun and easy to use. I think the sound quality is just fine as that was one of my major concerns. (I have Cingular.) It's a great all purpose phone to use...wonderful for walks so you have your music and phone all in once nice package. I also went through Radio Shack to get this since they were much more helpful than the kids at the Cingular booth. (Phone was only $150 at Radio Shack.)

Pros: Music, sound, options, looks, convenience, great shortcuts, voice dial

Cons: Small keys, but the shortcuts make up for that....

I think it's a nearly perfect phone. By the way, the Cingular website now has this phone offered in pink....and I just bought mine 3 weeks ago....

Slightly Impressed, could be better

Overall the L7 is a good phone. Good reception and the sound quality is decent. However there are a couple things that I would have done differently. For example, even if you purchase and larger SD card, you can still only put 100 songs on the device. Apple limits how many songs the phone can hold, which means that if you are a serious music person you have to carry your L7 and your mp3 player. Also you cannot use bluetooth headphones with this device, the technology isn't supported. Other than that I like it, for the price you really can't find anything like it.
Pros: Sleek design, Itunes, bluetooth, and camera.
Cons: Only 100 songs, and you can't listen to music through bluetooth headset.

phone has everything I want..

Well, I have had the phone now for about a week and I absoluteley love it. I am coming from a s710a, so the size difference alone makes me enjoy my slvr.

Pros

-Screen Brightness
-Itunes
-Expansion Card
-Slim design
-Battery Life
-Reception
-Camera quality is NOT BAD for a VGA
-so many more

Cons

-Screen size (thought it was going to be the size of the razr screen)
-No autolock keybad
-Not a clamshell (oh well)

Overall, I would def. suggest this phone to anyone who loved/love the Razr or any slim phone for that matter. It has EVERYTHING I want.

Great Phone- Grows on you with each day

Well, let me tell you when I first got this phone, I was in love with its form factor. Sleek, thin, sexy. Then after a couple of days, I was upset with the Motorola software (why I gave it a 4.5 instead of 5.0) Keep in mind there is no perfect phone. However, then I put this phone in perspective it is a phone, sounds pretty good with headset and i tunes. Photographs are fair to good quality. And, when you set up your e-mail, you start receiving e-mails on this little phone. Mind you it's not a pda, blackberry but it does all of the basics and pretty well. After using it day after day, I started to enjoy all of its features and appreciate it more and more. The speaker phone works very well for the size, weight and dimension of the phone. It's a quad band phone for those who travel. The screen is very nice and bright and crisp.

The cons: The largest con is Motorola's software, you are unable to add any new themes unless you are able to re flash the phone which I would say voids your warranty and 99 percent of the public don't know what that means, let alone how to do that. The phone comes with three basic themes that I would say most people would think are okay. Second, a Nokia VGA camera is better than Motorola 1.2 megapixel camera. Well Slvr has a vga camera that is adequate and most important, the phone is not edge capable. Finally, with i tunes, at the memory should be at least 1gig, not 512 mb.
If Motorola really revamps its software, and adds some basic features Sony Ericsson/Nokia/Samsung add to their phones. You would truly have a 5 out 5 phone. Again, enjoy this phone for what it is.
