Not so much.
The over all features and concept of the phone are good, but I am on my third one and each time have had a problem with it. Over all the battery life time on the regular and extended battery are not very good. Speakers go out very easily on them (I work outside alot, need the volume high). Also the last two I have had tend to shut themselves off, without notice.
What Happened?
I have alltel and just tried the Q out.
Was sad to return it, yes the best things about the Q is it is a great multi media phone, yes 2 speakers, verry loud, plays movies, songs, windows mobile 5.0, percect size, best keybord, larger than palm, BUT I had to return it, POOR Recption. and striped down version of windows, does not even come with a note pad program and task program is awfall, windows version on palm comes with more programs, why yes there is two different versions of mobile 5.0, it seems you get more with the palm.
But phone must have good recption so returned it.
Pros:
great as hand held multi media device, great size, great keyboard, good screen. buy the extended battery and it will serve you well.
Cons:
POOR BAD NOT GOOD for a phone RECPTION, if you need phone to make calls or go on internet, not dependable, unless you live or use phone in a area with lots of signal strenght I would not reccomend it.
STRIPPED DOWN version of win 5.0, if you want this device and do not mind buying more programs (spending more money) this is phone for you, you can buy palm or rim, and you have all programs you need to start you off
NOT THAT BAD
I have owned my Q since January and it is not that bad. My previous phone was a xv-6700.
This is not for people who want the top of the line technology on their phone and want to do everything except clean their house on the phone.
If you want a phone to make calls, text, and see your emails in that order of preference then this is your phone.
Pros
Phone quality (1. because Verizon Wireless is the best, 2. clear sound)
Keyboard
Speaker-phone
Size
Screen
Cons
MMS- wish I could hear the sound
Text Messages- doesn't keep you sent folder
For me, this phone is good for the basic user who wants emails. If you want more don't be cheap and get a true PDA phone not a Smart-phone.
Sprint Q
Just thought i would give some info that might be helpful. I toughed out the software update from motorola, the constant crashing and rebooting, and found that it does seem to improve the phones battery life. It no longer gets hot while running programs and i find myself charging it less. The overall phone performance has improved a little too. If you feel the battery life sucks, give it a shot, hopefully it works for you too. Just make sure you backup your personal info while doing the motorola upgrade!
Black Q works fine for me
So far, so good. I have had many smartphones and all have left me wanting, mostly because they are big and heavy or cumbersome. I moved back to a razr because I needed something small and light, but missed access to my calendar and the occasional ability to send email.
For me, the black q looks and feels right. I haven't had any performance or reliability issues and the battery isn't bad at all for mostly phone use. If I did a lot of online work, I'd probably add the extended battery, but the plain battery gives me plenty of power for a couple of days or more which is fine.
I also like that Verizon now supports tethering which they didn't with my previous PPC phone, the Treo 700w. It even works on my Mac as well as my pc.
Sprint Motorola Q
I really like the phone minus a few issues it has.
Im just really upset that the fact that I can't send pictures via MMS...Is there anyway to be able to send pictures to other people on this phone?
Very Cool Phone!
I read some of the reviews here, and I disagree with many of the negative comments. I am a Sprint user and have been with them since 1999. There is no way this phone can be rated a 1 out of 5!!. I have owned two Treos in the past and the hardware on the Q surpasses it by far. I prefer the comfortable feel of the Treo in my hand, but that's about it! The Q from Sprint is a very, very good smart phone because primarily of the sound quality, excellent reception, and excellent Bluetooth functions. I buy my phone based on Bluetooth and I can tell you that it is very good on the Q.
Pros:
- Excellent reception
- Bluetooth works very well (handsfree and file transfer)
- Customizable themes can be easily loaded
- Sound quality is very good
- Size is great for a Smartphone
- Fast internet, and only $10/month for unlimited with Sprint
Cons:
- Buttons don't always activate... could be a little bit more sensitive to push
- Screen smudges quite a bit
- Would like the design to be a little more rounded... to rectangular - but this is a minor request
Overall a great little Smartphone that has provided me with a lot of power in a little package during my business travels. Even if you don't use it for business, it will keep your life organized quite nicely!
The Q IS WONDERFUL
I have the motorola Q the motorola Q has great excellent features any body that want a smart phone i would highly recommend this phone the phone is small thiner then a pack of cards very well put together and does not cost as much as if you were to buy a treo. This phone allows you to do various things if u want a clear camera The Q is were its at or if u like to text or email you can setup your email on your phone a have access to any body that emails you whether if it is business or personal also you can sync all your personal files from your pc to the Q and a lot of people don't know this but if you are tired of those boring ring tones that the phone comes with then you can put your favorite music on a memory card and insert it into your phone and then there goes your personal music and ring tones because your music gets added to your ring tones list thats a major thing because no pda or smart phone i think can do that i might be wrong but that a plus but that just some of the major reasons why i would recommend this phone it has personal and business use
But there are some cons about this phone as far as the battery it dies fast well all depends what you do and the Q does not have ms (microsoft) word so you cant type as though if you were on your computer at home but you still can email, text, and thing of that nature
The 'Q' lacks battery life.
The 'Q' will not last the weekend, even with the extended battery and absolutly no use whatsoever.
I have two phones, a Q (work phone) and the LG VX8000 (personal phone), both with Verizon. When I got the Q at work I was super excited and charged it up and started playing around and it was really cool. But it was also really slow and I soon found that the battery life was horrible. I got an extended battery and the battery life improved, but is still unacceptable. I instead use my personal phone whenever it is important that I can be reached.
Let me compare battery life, the 'Q' is one month old (extended battery is two weeks old), the VX8000 (and battery) are about two years old.
Q Battery Life with standard battery, no button presses or use whatsoever: 28 hours
Q Battery Life with extended battery, no button presses or use whatsoever: 40 hours
VX8000 Battery life with standard battery and about an hour of talk time: Still on after 8 days with one bar shown on battery icon.
As far as Pros:
Awesome screen and takes pretty good pics and video, but not as good as the VX8000 (which is touted for it's good camera).
Mobile 5.0 allows all kinds of programs and Windows Media player and IE allow me to look up normal websites and view videos online.
Sync with outlook is really cool and I can send email using my normal buisness email server instead of some crazy @verizon address. I could also use gmail or whatever online too.
Additional cons:
Verizon disabled DUN unless you pay extra for it, even though the phone natively supports it and prior to a "patch" could easily be configured to do so even on verizon.
Did I mention the battery life? The only really important thing about a phone is that you can be reached with it. If the phone is dead, it is useless.
I would recommend against the 'Q' because I see the battery life as being entirely unacceptable by any standard.
Motorola Q Black
I am very surprised and pleased with the latest edition of the Q.
I really like the black grippy, almost rubber like material used on the case.
The grippy exterior allows keeping it in my shirt pocket and little worry of it sliding out, unlike the silver-slippery version.
Even better is that the battery covers fit snuggly and tight compared to the original silver version, both standard and extended battery versions.
With the extended battery (and cover) the phone has a heft that feels right in one's hand.
Reception is excellent, often better than a friend's Razr (same location, same carrier).
Still miss a clamshell phone, as the Q feels like a ping pong paddle to my face, but I am getting used to it.
The previous comments about resetting can be avoided by shutting down running apps- Go to Start, System Tools, Task Manager, Menu, Kill All. This removes all apps that are running. (makes memory available again)
Take the time to figure Wireless Synch. It is great to get emails on my phone. Verizon Support is very good in walking users through to get it going. (call them on a land line so you can work on the cell phone)
Overall a very good Smart Phone PDA solution. Perfect? Not quite, but very close.
Motorola listened and improve the original Q. Good Job.
