ringer sucks

Oct 15, 2006 by trogtor

The speaker is on the back of the phone and is very small. This makes the phone very hard to hear when it rings.
Other than that great phone.

Nice phone...

This phone is very pretty. Sleek and slim. I got it in the pink. The screen is bright and clear. The keypad is large enough to text on. It is smooth, but I never had a problem losing my place. Sound quality is ok during calls. BUT the speakerphone and ringers SUCK BIG TIME! I download ringers to my phone, and I will literally have the speaker pressed against my ear and I can NOT hear them! AT ALL!! It's horrible. And I recently bought a new phone, after only having the Katana for 6 months because I couldn't stand the speaker being so horrible. If you use the ringers that COME WITH the phone, it's find, but if you download ringers, you're wasting your $$ because you cannot hear them at all. Over all, it's a good phone if you don't mind not being able to hear your calls.

The Katana needs help

The Katana on the surface is a nice phone but it suffers some deficiencies. This review is based on 2 Katana phones. The speaker is on the back. If you keep it in a case good luck to hear it ring. It lacks a decent camera. Its feature set falls very short.I was not able to make calls away from my windows when I was home (only a fair coverage area) and would loose calls if I moved around. My replacement for the Katana (Samsung a900) does much better. I would drop calls while traveling in good coverage areas due to overhead wires and such, not so with my a900. I believe, though I have no proof, that the people at Sprint recommend the Sanyos because they receive a higher commission. I found the speaker phone to be excellent to hear with but not as good at transmitting what I had to say. The Bluetooth was fair to good but not great. As you can see I found this to be a disappointing phone.

Katana is a borrible phone

My family and I bought three of these phones when they were first on the market. My sister and I use our phones alot and have had a ton of problems. The small triangular pieces on the bottom of the back have fallen off of both of our phones. The phone is not very durable and breaks easily. The service is also not that great. The ringer is very hard to hear because the speaker is on the back of the phone and is small. It is very flimsy and not as nice as the razr. Now they are giving them away for free, I would take one for free but certainly not pay what I paid for it.

Entry level phone, not at a entry level

I find the Sanyo Katana to be of good quality, sound structure and not overloaded with features.

I have two Katanas, one for myself and one for my wife. I find the Bluetooth, the camera and web based features to be just enough in the phone, without overloading the phone.

With most people having MP3s or IPODs why would u need another one in your phone. I think the Moto Razr phones feel like they will brake easily and I like the separation on the buttons for the Katana.

Pros: Not over loaded with features, good looking phone with slim design. Low profile when on your side.
Cons: NONE!
