Cingular Launches Service in Big Apple
Jul 1, 2002, 4:09 PM by (staff)
Cingular Wireless today launched its service in the New York City area, the biggest wireless market in the country. Cingular was previously the only national carrier that didn't offer service in the area because it did not have any rights to airwaves there. Cingular's service takes advantage of a network sharing agreement with VoiceStream. The two companies had originally agreed to swap spectrum, but decided to share each other's networks in order to save on build-out costs. Cingular said it opened 55 stores today, including a flagship store in Manhattan.
