Google today announced that Android app developers will be able to offer in-app subscription services within their applications. With an updated set of tools provided to developers today, the Google Play Store now supports subscriptions and automatic-renewal billing on either a monthly and an annual basis. Developers are allowed to set their own prices and Google handles all of the back-end billing and payments. The feature is being rolled out by several larger developers first, including Glu Mobile, and will become available to/from more developers over time. Device owners can manage and cancel their subscriptions through the MyApps tool within the Google Play Store. Android device users will need to have the latest version of the Google Play Store (v3.5) installed on the device in order to acces subscriptions. Developers can download the new APIs starting today.
