Google today added textbooks to the Google Play Store. Textbooks for higher education can be rented or purchased from the Books section of the Play Store. Book rental periods last for six months, and Google says rentals can save college students up to 80% compared to the full purchase price. According to Google, it has a solid list of participating publishers who've provided textbooks across a wide variety of subjects. Textbook data is stored in the cloud and can be viewed and read on Android tablets and smartphones, via desktop browsers, and on iOS devices via the Chrome browser. The Google Play Books app for Android devices includes search and note-taking features, as well as links to dictionaries, Wikipedia, and Google.
