Google today announced a new program for developers called Designed for Families. The program is meant to allow developers to designate their apps and games as family friendly. Apps submitted with this designation may be eligible for what Google says is a forthcoming, family-focused section of the Google Play Store. This section will help parents find age-appropriate content for their kids. Developers can opt into the program beginning today via the Google Play Developer Console. Google will review these apps to make sure they meet the requirements for the Designed for Families program. Google said more details about the program will be available soon. Earlier this year, Google released an app called YouTube for Kids meant to offer kid-specific content in an easier-to-manage format.
