RadioShack Joins With Global Distributors For Big Buying Power

RadioShack will join with three other phone distributors to form Braxda Telecom, an alliance for phone purchasing and service. The American retailer will team with Dangaard, which specializes in phone distribution, configuration and service as well as Axiom and Brightstar. The alliance will have 70,000 retail outlets in 52 countries, and intends to use that power to negotiate distribution deals directly with manufacturers and allow them to launch a handset around the world simultaneously. RadioShack has typically only sold widely available carrier-customized handsets. This move could signal it intends to offer exclusive models on Cingular, or even Sprint, as it once did for Verizon.
