Congress Working To Protect Call Records

Two US House Committees have recently passed bills to help protect call records. The House Commerce Committee passed a bill that outlaws the sale of customer call records and requires permission from customers before their call data is used for marketing. The House Judiciary Committee passed a bill outlawing impersonating people in order to obtain their call records. The bills will likely be combined before heading to the House floor for vote. House Commerce Committee Chairman Joe Barton expects the two bills will be introduced - separately or together - shortly and could be signed into law within a few months.
