BlackBerry today said it has come to an agreement with the government of Pakistan that will allow it to remain in the country. Last month, BlackBerry said it would leave Pakistan in order to protect the privacy of its users. The Pakistani government had demanded access to BlackBerry's servers and the company refused. Pakistan then issued a shutdown order. "We are grateful to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority and the Pakistani government for accepting BlackBerry's position that we cannot provide the content of our customers' BES traffic, nor will we provide any so-called backdoors to our BES servers," said BlackBerry in a statement. "BlackBerry has decided to remain in the Pakistan market." The company thanked its customers in the country for their support. BlackBerry's business now focuses chiefly on providing secure communication services to businesses and governments. Providing a backdoor to its servers would have undermined its position.
