The European Commission has given Apple permission to close its planned purchase of Shazam. In April, the Commission put the brakes on the deal in fear in might reduce choice for users of music streaming services. After conducting an investigation, the Commission now concedes that the acquisition will not harm European consumers. Shazam is used by hundreds of millions of people worldwide to query song identities by pointing their phone or watch at an audio source. It is available to Android and iOS devices alike. The $400 million deal was first made public in December. It's not clear how quickly Apple will close the deal.
