Verizon's CFO Indicates Next iPhone May Be Global
Apr 21, 2011, 2:04 PM by Eric M. Zeman
Speaking during its quarterly earnings call today, Verizon CFO Fran Shammo suggested that Apple's next iPhone will launch concurrently on AT&T's and Verizon's networks. Rather than two separate versions of the iPhone, however, Shammo's remarks appear to indicate that the next iPhone would be a dual-mode GSM/CDMA device with global capabilities. He said, "When a new device from Apple is launched, whenever that may be, we will be, on the first time, on equal footing with our competitors on a new phone hitting the market, which will also be a global device." Apple has not confirmed if what Shammo said is accurate. Shammo didn't say if the next iPhone would be able to use any type of 4G, such as LTE or HSPA+. Shammo also reiterated that Verizon will adopt tiered data plans for both 3G and 4G by the middle of summer.
