Google today announced that it is working directly with handset makers and wireless network operators to push out Android system-level updates to devices sooner and for longer. Those companies participating in the alliance include AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon Wireless; and LG, Samsung, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, and HTC. Google said these companies will guarantee that users get access to Android updates for at least 18 months after the device launches.
