Verizon Considering Bid for Sprint
Life would be over as we know it!
I would hate to think I would be a Verizon customer. Lots of things that sprint does that verizon dont ..and I wouldnt see verizon changing anything. Worst would be to let verizon get their hands on the sanyo phones !!! BOOOO. Thats all they need is a phone they can lag, so it dont come out for 2 years and start making sanyo look lame.No thanks Im happy to be sprint or sprint/ nextel.

To be honest being a sprint/nextel customer really wont o nearly as much when compared to being a Verizon Customer. Verizon's network covers 3X the amount of area as sprint and there customer base is much larger so thats many more people you can talk ...

If Verizon wireless were to purchase Sprint or Alltel then it wouldn't be long before Cingular would try to take over T-mobile USA. This would not be a good thing because you would have a CDMA monopoly and a GSM monopoly, thus causing prices to rise ...

The whold merger of Verizon/Sprint is just talk. Sprint/Nextel would be lame too. VZW is one of the best wireless companies in the world financially and cust satisfaction wise. Sprint should sell Sprint PCS to Nextel if they do decide to merge. I can see Verizon buying out Alltel before they buy out Sprint PCS. 1. Verizon roams off Alltel in the midwest, so buying Alltel will lower cost by having less roaming charges. 2. Alltel picked up OK lic/spectrum from Cingular as part of the ATTWS merger and Verizon needs that market. 3. it's more realistic that buying Sprint. VZW should start a IPO before any larger merger anyways. its nice having deep pockets with Ma (Vodafone) and Pa (Verizon Communication) backing, but VZW will be better of...

Verizon still is the best cell phone provider. Even though Cingular is the biggest, Verizon has the best voice quality, and recepetion. CDMA all the way!!!! A sprint and verizon merger would be an unstopable team If occured. As far as nextel, well they're screwed. Maybe after verizon buys sprint verizon will buy nextel as well. Woohoo!!!

verzon-sprint is never going to pass the regulators, not even under president G.W. corporate puppet bush's administration.
Verizon is making noise to screw this merger up to weaken a potential competitor. That is okay but it does not mean we should buy it. An attempted and then failed verizon-sprint merger would screw sprint and it would screw nextel, leaving verizon sitting pretty.
There is potential value to a sprint/verizon merger but getting approval is a low odds game and verizon must know that.
Incidentally Verizon would still have more subs than a nextel-sprint combo and they will probably have more than cingular-ATT soon as well.

Verizon knows that this duo isnt SUPER big, but can be. If the sprint /nextel makes it...and then ATTWS starts to sell under sprint, Sprint will have alot more means of gaining customers then verizon..and that might be bad news for them.

😁 Ok someone please correct me if I'm wrong. Sprint uses GSM network. Right? Verizon uses CDMA. How would this merger work anyways? They use two different networks so would Sprint Customers need new phone or Verizon Customers need new phone depending on the network used.
No. Both Sprint and Verizon utilize CDMA networks, therefore are compatible. However, if they did merge (which is doubtful) some customers may be required to get a new phone.

I love Sprint so much. My parents have Verizon, and it sucks here in Vegas. I dont like Verizon. What will happen to me, and all of the other sprint customers? Sprints phones are far better, will they get rid of them, or will it just be like Cingular and ATT. I dont know but i dont like this new one carrier domination thats trying to happen here.
Sprint and Verizon coverage would merge where you have coverage and your parents don't and vise versa you will both have signal 😁 . most likely you can keep your phone 🙂 .

I don't think this will go through due to the amount of money sprint is throwing towards Nextel. Verizon would have to really ante up and probly have to buy out both, and for what? Why would they need them? More customers? Buying the no. 3 and 5 carriers. I though Verizon had a good network why would they need more coverage? This deal would be almost a 100 billion dollar deal I would think if the sprint Netxtel is 36 billion. That is a lot!!
As far as anti-trust, the FCC doesn't do regulate nearly as much as your think, they could find a way around it but it would take at least year and a half. Especially since GSM is a totally different technology and this is phone business albeit wireless, many people still look at it like a natura...

Cingular has just spent the last 6 years getting all their networks under the same technology. I doubt they would even want to have to do that again. So I wouldn't expect to see Cingular even touch this deal.

Maybe. But a formal bid won't happen unless the FCC and DOJ indicate that such a buyout/merger is possible. If that's the case, then expect it to happen.
