Alert notifications
Anyone know if the LG Ally can be set to multiple alerts? Custom ring and vibrate work but only initial alert happens. I can find nothing in the settings that activates recurrent alerts? I checked the manual to no avail. Am I missing something?
Thanks, Chuck

Froyo?
Anybody think the Ally will get the Android 2.2 FroYo update sooner rather than later (if at all?)
I'm sure it will, but the real question at the moment is when the VZ stores will get the damn phone in the first place! No one in the stores or customer service knows anything except that you pre-order it on-line.
Yes, LG Said yesterday (8/4/10)that the Ally will get Froyo (Android 2.2) They will announce the Time Frame for the Release at a later time.
Well they just released Froyo for the Ally today. So if you have an Ally go grab it!

saving pictures people send you?
😕 how do i do this?! it never gives me the option. if i touch and hold the screen it will pop up for about 1 millisecond and its gone. am i the only one with this problem? i need to figure this out before my 30 days are up and i can't return the phone for a new one. picture saving is a necessity for me hah.
i hope someone can help me out here.
thanks in advance!
I need that too and im surprised no one has answered this. This phone is weird compard to my env touch. I need to save pics and be able to send
I've found that the only way to save a pic sent within a text is to long press the picture while it's in it's thumbnail format within the threaded text. (Rather than tapping the pic first and then trying to save)
It should then give you a prompt to s...

Saving ringtones - please help

setting voicemail password
Does anybody know how I can preset my vm password to enter automatically whenever I dial my vm?
With other phones, I would simply go into my vm setting and after my mobile number, enter a "pause" followed by my 4-digit pw. Any ideas?
Visual Voicemail is a saver. You input your password only on set up of the app. It will show you all voicemails you have and who they are from and you can choose which you listen to and which delete.

Can you use this phone as a modem?
I wanted to know if you can connect this phone to your home computer and use it as a modem if you have the right app? A friend of mine has the Droid and she has an app called Tether Lite that allows her to plug her phone into her computer and run the internet on her home computer. She doesnt have to pay for cable internet anymore, just the service on her phone. Can the Ally do this?
You can tether it but I believe you have to root the phone first. My friend does it with his Ally and I do it with my G1. So I'll ask him if he had to root his first.

wallpaper resetting issues
Hey all, just got this phone for my fiance. it's working great, but the wallpaper keeps resetting every few days. It seems to be random, not tied to any specific application usage. I'm not seeing a setting anywhere to make the wallpaper permanent. Has anyone else had a similar issue?

Wait for ALLY or buy the DROID?
Anyone care to answer? The droid is buy one get one right now so if it is a better choice, I'd rather do that. HOWEVER, I like the keyboard on this ALLY better than on the droid.
Personally, I am not a Motorola fan, but a huge LG fan and I have already pre-ordered the Ally. I feel like it was worth the wait, and I have been waiting a long time! You only have to wait for the Ally until Thursday, or pre-order now.
the keyboard on the ally is better.
EVERYTHING else is better on the droid.
THE VERDICT!? Ally or DROID!? I see alot of glowing reviews for the ALLY and some people are comparing it to the droid saying it's better...for those of you who do have it here on phonescoop...what are your thoughts? For those of you who might have...

Ally2 Coming in July
I was in a VZW store yesterday, Salesman said the Ally2 and the next Moto Droid are coming out in July.
Played with the current models extensively. Though the Ally was nice, it paled speed wise in comparison to the current Droid and the Incredible. I figured there has to be a reason Verizon all of a sudden dropped the Ally's price to $49.95 (with 2 year contract) as soon as it hit the stores. The best part of the LG Ally is clearly the keyboard.
And from what I've seen of the new Droid X on engaget.com, the original Moto Droid will be history.
I work in verizon and I haven't heard anything of this, but if they do I would be fairly surprised. it would be quite a fast turnaround. However, it is possible.
There are rumors of a few droids coming out though next months, but these seem to ...

I don't think the Ally is getting shelved just yet. It just replaced the Eris as our low end Droid device. There might be another LG Android coming out but not as a replacement. I will say if you are looking for a cheaper low end device the Ally can't...

Startup sound?
All my LG phones of the past (8300, enV, Voyager) offered the option to turn off sounds during startup, but I haven't figured out how to do this with the Ally, any suggestions?
Even when I turn all sounds off on the phone, then power down, then turn it back on, it still plays the annoying LG chime. There has to be a way to turn this off! grrrrr...

Do I need an App for Voice Dialing with BlueTooth?
I just received my Ally yesterday and it's a definite upgrade in many ways from my Motorola Q. 2 things I loved about the Q that I'm not sure work with the Ally.
1) When I had appointment on my calendar with the Q it automatically went to "Meeting" mode so I never had to turn off my phone or adjust the ringtones
2) I could just push the "Call" button on my Bluetooth headset then I would be asked what I wanted to do. I would just say "Call" and the person's name and it would call. This is WAY important to me, especially with all the new laws. I can use my bluetooth headset (Motorola H390) to talk on when I dial on the phone, but that won't help me when driving. Is there a ways to use the voice dialing without having to touch th...

Notepad in Ally?
I'm new to smartphones, so bear with me...
What is the suggested application that would replace the Notepads in Multimedia phones?
This phone has so many great apps, but I'm looking for a simple way to keep track of notes.

Ally Review?
Hey, just wondering if anyone has received their Ally yet? and if so, how's it holding up so far?
I pre-ordered and paid for overnight, recieved it on the 27th via Fed-Ex. So far I love it! Can't put it down!

LG Ally or HTC Incredible?
I've been waiting for the Incredible to go down in price, but my patience is wearing thin. I don't really care about the QWERTY keyboard, or the camera. What do you think?
The incredible WILL NOT go down in price until the incredible2 (or whatever they call it) comes out.
The incredible is far and above the superior phone on every point but that the Ally has a physical keypad. It's well worth the extra $100 IMO

Ally in stores--anyone have theirs with a review?
I went to the Verizon store today and saw the Ally. It seems like a pretty nice device, although I am still leaning towards the DROID.
I am looking forward to those of you who purchased the ALLY and care to review it for us here.
Funny, I stopped in to a Verizon Wireless store today and they said they won't see it till next week sometime.

DELAYED !
And no one at Verizon can say for how long.
😲
I went to the verizon store today and asked about the ALLY. They said it was delayed and there was no idea of when it WAS going to be released. The verizon rep told me that it would not be worth the wait as he said that LG basically pushed it into pr...

Why no Camera upgrade, LG?
I have the Dare and still love it *However* the one department it's always lacked in is its camera- specifically, very poor zoom and very poor flash technology. 3.2 megapixel wasn't bad until now with the Droid at 5 and Incredible coming out at 8! So why didn't LG come up to speed with its Android competitors? The other feature I wanted to really wanted to see get better is the audio portion of video-taking. The Dare's useless at concerts.
My wife has and Env3 with a 3mp camera and it takes better pictures than my Eris at 5mp. Megapixels are everything. If you want a wallpaper for your phone, a contact photo, maybe some quick uploads to facebook, than 3+ mp is more than sufficient. An...

LG is trying to keep the price down. They want to provide an entry level android phone with a qwerty keyboard to verizon. (99$ after rebate) Its the only android phone that has a full qwerty for 100$ or less...
The Moto droid and Incredible are Premium devices, which is why they have upgraded specs.

Should be interesting
I would wait on some full on reviews about the phone before passing judgment, but from your hands on it seems like it might be a decent "Me Too" android phone (aka, an entry level one.. because even if it's only an extra $100 to get the prime lineup, for some people that's too much.)
So on the low end Verizon will have the Ally (Stock android), Devour (MOTOBLUR), and the Droid Eris (Sense, until it is sold out)
Of the three, only Devour is running old software now.
Only downside for reps (IMO) is that It's going to be even harder to position the KIN now I think. That, and hopefully the battery on this one will be secure, unlike the Touch
Why do you think the Ally is a low end Android smartphone? It seems very well-specced to me.
And what do you mean by hopefully the battery is secure unlike the Touch? Are you referring to the LG EnV Touch? What was unsecure about it? Would it fall ...

It seems to me like this thing beats the Motorola Droid in every category except 1/2 an inch on the screen size and a couple MP on the camera, all for half the price.
I just might get the wife and me a pair of these a few months from now if they do...
