HD Frame Rate Improvement
I've seen mention on the Internet of an improvement in the frame rate (from 25 fps to 30 fps) for HD recording on the Nokia N8-00. Is this coming in an official firmware update or is this a hack?

Flagship Phone? Really??
It is using an ARM11 CPU. This is their top of the line phone? C'mon. Apple, Moto, HTC are all using Cortex A8 based processors since last year. This not even released Nokia is going to be their top of the line running an ARM11.
And the screen res is not even close to the new iPhone and Android Flagship phones.
Can someone please point me to the url where they refer to the N8 as their "flagship" device?
Information I've read indicates that the Symbian OS can do more with "lesser" processors than the competition can with their OS/processor combination. And have you seen the sample photos taken with this phone??? I saw some at All About Symbian. I was ...

It is just a different way of doing things. The N8 takes its aim at people who are interested in things that the typical Android user just might not be interested in.
The Nokia can do some things that iPhone and Android cannot do very easily, howe...

Google Apps
Will I be able to use / download Google Apps with this device? I am hearing two different stories from Nokia. 👀
Google APPS or Google MAPS?
You will surely be able to use G Maps (though I personally think Ovi Maps blow Google Maps out of the water).
As for the other Google mobile apps, I really don't know. I know there are a few that Symbian already had suppo...

Processor Speed
Is there a perceptible difference between the N8 processor and the new one gh processors that are trending? 🙄
Is this sarcastic or is the rolling eyes a mistake?
Either way, the processor has an overall lower clock speed but the OS is also designed to operate more efficiently than others (such as Android, etc.) It also has a better GPU than most to handle gr...

T-Mobile?
Will this phone be with T-mobile?
No, it will be an unlocked phone. That's why it has all 5 3G bands, so any GSM carrier you choose you'll still have 3G speeds

Sticky Main Screen and Calendar
When I return to the main screen from an app or another use, the phone freezes for about 30 seconds and will not take an immediate command. If commands are tapped they will then be performed in quick succession when the unit wakes up.
When I go to the calendar it takes quite a while for the days in the month view to populate and then to be able to write a meeting or to-do with alarm. I do have a very full calendar with a lot of meetings and alarms repeating for a few years.
Does anyone else experience these delays? And, have you been able to do something about them.
cai
is it only the calender that does that? i think it is because the phone updates and saves your calender before closing, and if you have years and years of repetitive meetings and to-do's, i suspect the phone has to do quit a bit of work.

OVI maps
I experienced trouble using OVI Maps in certain parts of the eastern U.S. Does anyone have a sense for whether the Google Maps Oral Navigation application will be available for the N8? I am parking my n95 for the n8. 😳
I have no idea if Google Maps will have voice guidance available for the N8 but have you tried downloading the maps and guidance onto your N95? (not sure if it's supported on that phone or not.) I did it with my 5800 and it was excellent. It never had...

Contacts and other negatives
I have used my Green Nokia N8 with Ovi Music Unlimited and 32 GB extra memory (totaling 48 GB) 9 days since I bought it. I read your interesting review.
I understand you dislikes on certain UI features, but some like and some don't. I like most of them.
There are some comments and disagreements I would like to share
1. Contacts
"They are clumsy, and not as simple as those offered by others. For example, it took efforts across multiple days to even create an Ovi account."
Creating Ovi account took multiple days? Really? Never heard from anyone.
Nokia N8 has excellent and intuitive contact application that not only work as simple contact application but extends its reach to Social media. When I got my N8 I first used Mail fo...

Exactly my thoughts... I dislike how phone reviewers bad mouth what they don't understand and make unfair comparisons. Just cause Android wants to intergrate your online accounts with your phone contacts; doesn't mean everyone wants that. Symbian is a...

Frowny Face
I'm sort of disappointed. The proposed hardware of this phone gave me wet dreams for the last few months, yet the review implies that it chokes with its operating system. Boo.
Too bad we're not at the point where one could sideload a different operating system onto any smartphone hardware.
Folks have loaded an Android OS to the N900, Linux other than Maemo has been loaded to it as well. I believe someone figured out how to get Windows 95 to run on it.
If open source continues to gain steam the day may be two to three years out when ...

To each their own... I'm getting mine next week, and I'm excited as ever =)! Android OS is too dependent on google services, iOS is too narrow viewed and restricted, and Blackberry OS just doesn't appeal to me at all. With Symbian, I can control it an...

Symbian^3... better or worse than S60?
My opinion... worse.
I enjoyed both S80 and S60 immensely. Some of the features that Eric lists as negatives of S60 are actually some of the features I appreciate the most about S60. I love S60 3rd Edition, especially Feature Pack 2. My current phone (a Nokia E75) does not have any issues or insurmountable problems to speak of. It does not crash, it does not pause for long periods of time when the screen rotates, it takes pictures in a snappy manner, and everything works properly (including the browser).
However, S60 5th Edition was, in my opinion, the first departure from decency for Nokia. I finally played with a Nokia 5230 Nuron, and found that I did not like the two-tap interface method. The touch screen was resistive, and re...

I wouldn't put so much weight on Eric's review here. Read other reviews first; some from Symbian site, some from site typically pro Android and pro iPhone. This is not 5th Edition (S^1). It looks like it, which I appreciate, but a lot has been address...

i agree with you for the most part...
but i think the n8 is capacitive(?)
and they moved to non-removable batteries to make it thinner. its not very friendly for people who like buying non-original batteries but im guessing they are so confident in ...

release
some one knows when will be released this device ???????? 😕 😕 😕 😕 😕
I read somewhere that the UK release date is late August. Who knows when it'll come stateside.
Contacts
"The only way I was able to sync my vast contact database with the N8 was to set up an Ovi account and use Nokia's account sync tools."
Seriously? You can't sync contacts with Exchange and/or Outlook?
No, that's not true. You can sync with Google Contact using Microsoft Exchange, and you can sync with Outlook via Ovi Suite.

All 5 3g bands
I'm glad that someone finally makes a phone with both T-Mobile and AT&T 3G bands. Awesome.
I remember when quad band GSM was a big deal ... this is definitely a noteworthy accomplishment
Ya really, this phone is looking nice
