Using Sprint Phone as a Modem for another computer

Most of the other carriers offer "data capable" phones. Spoke to Sprint. Say they only offer the "phone as web browser package" (not what we care about) but that with the proper USB cable and the package, you can use their service to use the phone as a modem. She did say "technically you're not supposed to." (What's that supposed to mean?)Has anyone used Sprint service to use their cell phone as a modem?

Thanks

Hi...well like it or not there is a wonderful piece of software out there right now that allows you to use your treo 600/650 as a wireless modem. The software is called Pda Net and can be found at the following link:

Download the trrial version for 30 days....if you like it buy it....I use it and have had no issues. In fact...they have modified the software to be used with your Blue Tooth enabled 650. That means a wireless modem.....NICE......

"Has anyone used Sprint service to use their cell phone as a modem?" That's a trick question, right? Like, "Have you stopped beating your wife?" Or, "Where did you hide the body?"

Yes, you can do it.

No, Sprint doesn't want you to do it, because it costs Sprint more for bandwidth usage than you are charged for Vision on the phone.

Yes, before 2003, Sprint offered PCS Connection kits and live tech support to make it work.

No, if you connect your computer to the net through your Sprint cellphone, you will have to do it without Sprint products or support. If you do manage to connect, Sprint will warn you that you are violating the Terms of Service. If you connect and use, say, 100 MB in one month, Sprint will cancel your accoun...

Yes you can! Don't go nuts, using it for streaming audio or video. Use it for e-mail, stock quotes, and low bandwidth uses for short sessions, keeping it under the radar of Sprint's bandwidth police.

In Mac OS X, the Samsung and Sanyo drivers are pre-installed. In the modem scripts, Sprint PCS Vision is pre-installed. Depending on traffic, you get 80-125 Kbps. The cable sells at Radio Shack for $23.
