Buying VIA E-Bay

I'm on Cingular (GSM) and was wondering how CDMA
users went about buying a phone and using it.

All I would have to do is move a sim card from one to another phone, what do you people do?

If I went CDMA I would want a backup phone as I do with CIngular, in fact I rotate the use of phones, can someone enlighten me?

SIM cards seem so much easier! When I have changed phones I prefer to take it into a service store. Sales stores don't know what they are doing & you can call a 800# but it is a pain in the a@@ and can take hours for your service to be switched. 👿

It's a little more complicated with CDMA. Both Sprint and Verizon use the CDMA technology and all of their phones have an ESN or electronic serial number. If you wanted a "backup" phone, you would have to call into customer service or goto any sprint/verizon vendor and ask for an ESN change. This is how one phone number is transferred from one phone to another. As far as all the phonebook information and etc, this would have to be done manually unless you have infrared capabilities in your phones. I hope this helps.

You can have your contacts transfered from one handset to another. I know Verizon has the machine to do it, I don't know if Sprint does, I am sure they do to. It's called a CelleBrite, I am not sure how much they will charge you though. If you're nice they'll probably do it for free, I know I do if the customer is nice...otherwise I charge them ;).

sim cards are nice and convinient but also do have a draw back. if you loose your phone or if it is stolen all they have to do is take your chip out and put theres in and they can have your phone. cdma uses what is called an esn each phone has a serial number and that is how the system recognizes it so if your phone is lost or stolen all you have to do is call in and report it then you litteraly are the only one that can use it. if a person other then you tries to call in to reactivate it the operator will simply tell them they have to go into a sprint store to reactivate it. when any one walks into a store with a lost or stolen phone the store will confiscate the phone and contact the owner to make aragements for return of the phone. with ...

yea, i know verizon charges $10 to have your phonebook transferred, not too sure about sprint. the expensive way is to purchase the data cable along with the software which adds up to about 60 bucks.
