I have a question...when/if the merger is complete, will this mean nextel customers will need to get a new phone that is cdma/iden capable to be able to use sprints network? If im understanding things right, thats what they would have to do or they could stay with what they have and continue only using nextels network.

"will this mean nextel customers will need to get a new phone that is cdma/iden capable to be able to use sprints network?"

yes and no... nextel will continue to run their network for 3 or so more years. if nextel consumers want to get a dual phone, which motorola, nextel, sprint, qualcomm are working on, they can do so.. but its not a must. since nextel will continue to spend money for their network.

If you are considering switching to Sprint, why would you wait pending the merger? If Sprint has what Verizon isn't providing you, (whatever it is you are looking for) then get what you need. The merger isn't going to affect Sprint's direction.Your service as a Sprint customer probably will be affected little if at all.

Nextel customers on the other hand will eventually migrate onto the Sprint network. It will be Sprint's ability to do this smoothly (or not) that will make this merger a success (or not).

No doubt it will be a mixed bag because I heard some humans were in charge and running the whole thing. 🤣 But Sprint has a pretty good track record to indicate that they can make this work in the long view for the benefit of al...
