Tell your friend they shouldn't have been a cheapskate and just gotten the ins on the phone and they wouldn't have this problem. Or have them check EBAY.

I have a Samsung A460. Its in good shape and still works really well. I haven't used it for a year, but I got it out of the box the other day and the battery still was holding at over a half.

RadioShack and other dealers have reconditioned phones cheap. They have been cleared and checked in the repair centers and still have a 1 year warranty.
