Q: if i am out of contract and my father gave me his old Sanyo 8100, can I call and get the ESN activated on my present account without a contract extension ??

curious...

His account does not have a past due balance so I believe the ESN is clear by the way.

I'm pretty sure No carrier can charge your for changing to a different phone IF you did not buy it from them or a authorized dealer at a discounted price.

Hi;

Yes you can. You are doing what is called an "esn swap" changing the equipment "electronic serial number" that is registered to your line of service. There is no fee for this and there is no need to have a contract extention or new contract.

The customer service specialist may make you an offer thou if you are interested in signing a new contract like giving you 5% off of your normal monthly bill, free sprint to sprint or early evenings for free. You do not need to do this if you are not interested.

Available ESN?

To add or use an ESN it needs to be available or not in use, any of the following would be good...

1-It is new
2-It has not been reported stolen.
3-It has been replaced with another ESN on an active line of service.
4-It isn't registered to an account that is expired and has an outstanding overdue balance.
5-It isn't registered to an active account this in "hotline" status.
6-And of course, it isn't in use on another line of service or account.

Hey!

"Due to security reasons we are not allowed to say..." 🤣

Too funny eh?

But if you can read between the lines you should be able to tell, eh?

Maybe you can help me, Sprint_Gold_Spec. I've posted this situation here before but would like to hear your response. I currently do not have Sprint service. My daughter does, but lives in a different market than I do. We would like to add a line to her plan for myself, but would also like to port my number to it, retaining my local number. We don't have a problem with signing a new contract, if that is necessary. Can this be done? Sprint is available in my area. Thanks.

Hi;

I can't see any problems with that, assuming she can add another line of service to her account.

She opens a new line of service, requests your number to be ported in, she will need your name, carrier, account number and password info.

Living in a differant area will require the phone to be on a plan of it's own thou, both phones could not be on a family shared plan in differant CSA's & yes it will need an agreement of it's own

Oh well, close but no cigar. We wanted it to be on her family plan, the separate contract is no problem for us.

yes you can add onto her account to share plan by keeping your same phone number. i dont know why gold question is suggesting you to have different plan. there is no such restriction. one family plan can have different numbers it doesnt make any difference.

Why doesnt sprint get on par with the other carriers text messaging format. The current one is outdated and sometimes doesnt even work with Samsungs well.

Hi;

Without a Vision plan the rate is 1 cent per KB to upload or download data.
Without a Vision or Text Msg plan it's 10 cents to send or receive a txt msg.

🙂
