I was speaking with a local brick and mortar agent the other day, and he told me something I don't think makes sense. He said that Sprint roams on all of the local Verizon towers. Being a current Verizon customer who has been searching for more dependable coverage, and having personally spent a good deal of time researching the local tower issue, this doesn't make sense to me. 4 years ago, Verizon customers were allowed to roam on the only local Sprint tower (yes, there's only one), and at some point that was closed to us. That's when signal got a lot worse at the house since the Sprint tower is closer to us than any of the Verizon towers. Currently I'm searching for a better solution, since Verizon seems to be like swiss cheese here. ...

Been there, done that. This site tells me there are no Sprint towers in Dutchess County at all, and none within 50 miles of me. Since many people here have Sprint and have signal, I know that's wrong. Are you not able to answer my original question?

what model phone do you currently have with VZW?

Generally VZW has superior coverage to Sprint and most every other carrier, maybe a different phone would work better

I've done some research in this area. Currently using a Motorola 720, which is better than the Samsung A310, by a lot. Also tried a Motorola 270, which was about the same as the current phone. Looks to me like the Moto's hold signal better in weak areas. At the house, the phones will constantly flip between 3 towers, because none of them are close enough to lock on. And that's with whatever phone. Real havoc on the battery.

Have you had the software updated on it recently? Try taking it to a corp store and have them download the newest software for it.

I have heard that motos hold signal better but I have personally tested many phones in poor/weak areas and what I have personally found is that the lg 4400 and sammy 650 work the best in bad areas, that includes testing all the motorolas, The samsung 6650 was the one that I have to use when I travel to a specific location that has almost no signal, I own a VZW store and have access to all the phones and that is what I found works the best for me, you can tr giving that a shot for 15 days and if it doesnt work take it back and revert bact to your previous contract

Of course I have. They could not update the 720, they told me the phone would not respond to it.

I know it is. They did update the s/w on a previous 720 that I had. I really think when I go into the store, that they just want to bluff people, to force them to buy one of their new models. But for some time, they haven't had any models with the features I want, at a price I'm willing to pay. They've also started giving people a real hard time doing anything with phone they didn't sell. So, they really did it to themsleves. If they had updated this phone, I probably wouldn't be looking so hard to jump ship. But I've put up with a lot, and maybe the next carrier will treat me better (I know that's a long shot, but it's how I feel).

Sorry, this thread started with a question about Sprint towers, but the discussion has drifted over to my issues with Verizon. It should be moved over to the Verizon forum, but I can't find a way to do that.

12590, but if you're not from this area, you need to be aware that I don't live in that zip code. Long story about the way the USPS split things up. There is no zip for where I live, the closest one is 12533, near the Taconic Pkwy. I work in 12540, near the Taconic Pkwy. And my husband needs coverage at work, which he currently isn't getting. That's 12603, which VZW says is fully covered, but for some reason there's dead spots on the property that can't be explained. Sorry for the long winded reply, but to say a zip code is covered around here, really doesn't count for much. Like I've said before the coverage is like swiss cheese.

as near as i can figure you are in a big pocket of what sprint refers to as future coverage.. there is actually a big pocket right there which sprint has no coverage but plans to put coverage in the near future

sorry it took so long for the reply

no problem, I understand. That's how this area has been since 2000, no improvements that I have been able to tell. Maybe the telcos think we can all continue to use a can and string!

You may also find this amusing. My local landline telco had electronic billing in 1999, but since Global Crossing sold it to Citizen in 2001, Citizen, still to this day keeps telling me, maybe in the future, no dates. Considering I have had electronic bill presentment for all of my bills since 1999, I find this ridiculous and so-o backwards. Seems like the only cell games in town even making a half hearted attempt are VZW and Cell One. Really not much of a choice! Would you believe we're only 60 miles from NYC? Not even the boonies.

Thanks anyway....

Give me your zip code or street address and I'll look into it further at work.

209 Hillside Lake RD, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590

The added bonus for me if I can get Sprint working is that one of my daughters and her husband have Sprint, military. I could use mobile to mobile with them.

Thanks!
