let's take a look at which is better and ya'll will have to decide.

Please remember that these are just examples and not actual plans, prices, or exact usage.
these are just examples.

let's just say that we have 2 customer's both with the exact same plan:minutes and price.
the plan will be 1000 minutes for 50.00.

customer 1 cingular uses 500 minutes a month for 3 months. banks 1500 minutes

customer 2 sprint also uses the same amount for 3 months. no bank. doesn't have rollover

month 4 both customers go over their plans by 1000 minutes because of a death in the family.

customer 1 cingular has 1500 banked minutes. no extra charge on bill.

customer 2 sprint has fair & flexible. has to pay extra $5.00 per 100 minutes(corr...

A Different Breakdown

Customer A has Cingular 450 min for 39.99 per month.
Customer B has Sprint F&F 300 min for 34.99 per month.

Month 1 customer A uses 400 min, banks 50. Customer B doesn't go over 300 min.

Current Rollover: 50 min.

Month 2 customer A uses the same 400 min, banks another 50.
Customer B remains under 300 min.

Current Rollover: 100 min.

Month 3 Customer A Uses 450, banks zero roll over.
Customer B remains under 300 min.

Month 4 customers A & B have emergencies which result in going over minutes by 500 min.

Customer A with rollover totals 400 min @ 40 cents per min.
Customer B has 500 min @ $5 per 100.

Customer A total charges: 39.99 + 160 = 199.99
Customer B total charges 34.99 + 25 = 59.99

I still think its a stalemate... F&F was probably the only concept Sprint could come up with after years of meetings (and paying out for consultants) to compete with Cingy's bendover plans.... They're both great, they both have advantages/disadvantages...

Yea, I would agree because both have been getting excellent “traffic” and most of the subscribers that sign onto cingular or sprint in fact chooses fair and flex and rollover.

Well the merger will be closed officially today and I can’t really go into any specifics that the combined company will do in the future.

I can give you some hints though.
1. 4g data high speeds@ 2.5ghz
2. qchat @ 1.9ghz
3. ev-do rev a @ 1.9ghz
4. co-locating of towers
5. dual mode phones
6. 3rd screens

Those are overall hints; however, I can’t give too much detail, right now, but at a later point, I will update everyone.

Nextel,

PLEASE keep us posted, I am particularly interested in the merger because I want to see how it will compare and contrast to the At&T Cingular Merger. Thank you!

Ok, maybe this is a dumb question, and hopefully you can answer this, but where does the 3rd screen go? One on the outside(on a flip, caller ID stuff), one on the inside, like current models, but a 3rd?? Hmmm

3rd screens? Oh I didn’t mean it that way, I probably should say more about it. There was an article in the paper (USA) to be precise, that Nextel-sprint will be using their 2.5 GHz for higher speed data technology to deliver 3rd screens. (http://www.usatoday.com/tech/wireless/2005-0 8-09-sprint-nextel_x.htm)

a snip it: “"It's all about the third screen," says Sprint CEO Gary Forsee, referring to the pint-sized video screens on wireless phones that are fast becoming ubiquitous.
The first two screens, of course, would be the TV and the PC. Forsee thinks the wireless screen, which is rapidly evolving into a mobile media center for millions of users, is the next great broadband opportunity.”

If you still don’t understand please let me ...

Ahh, I get it. I did a google on it and came up with an answer like yours, but still wasn't sure. For some reason, I was thinking 3 screens on the actual phone.

Yea, I am sorry I wasn’t clearer on that, because I thought I was because I already posted the article on that situation, so I thought everyone knew about it. Next time, I will be clearer. You did read the article right?

Aug 17, 2005, 11:46 AM
No I didn't. I have Cingular and pretty much hang out over there. I've come by Sprint but there's not much activity. I thought I'd drop by because of the merger to see if there was anything going on.

Aug 17, 2005, 2:22 PM
Yea, well if you want the article it is located at http://www.usatoday.com/tech/wireless/2005-08 -09-sprint-nextel_x.htm and if you want to read it go ahead if you don’t then you don’t have to of course.

Well, the merger obviously just happened on Friday and I have mentioned some posts on that situation and you can see that of course if you want and ask any questions you want to me and I will try to address them, but anyway, there are many things going on right now.

I have both Verizon and Cingular service. In my experience Roll Over is better. If only for people on the lower plan. I have 450 min for $39. I use about 250-400 Cingular min a month. I cannot buy a lower plan. I have months where I will use 600 or more minutes now and then. I currently have 1350 in my bank. Paying $39 per month for 1350 PLUS 450 per month is great deal. Fair and Flex would COST me more money in the log run.

and you make a valid point for this situation. F&F would be better. and my example rollover would have been better. but as we all know some customer like myself that never go over it wouldn't matter either way.

Aug 12, 2005, 9:52 PM
ok i am tired of all these examples, yes we all get the concept yes rollover is a great thing yes F&F is a great things, but there are going ot be examples where rollover is better and where F&F is better, guess what that why competition is out there... if 1 company was jsut better all around wouldnt be much competitions

Aug 12, 2005, 2:18 PM
Well first off it doesn't work work like that there is no Nation Wide F&F plan that comes w/ 1000 mins if your going to compare compare real life plans

For example:

F&F plans: 50.00 for 700 min 5.00 for every 100 over 700 up to 1700 minutes after 1700 it's .05c a min which breaks down to .05 anyways

and then there is always the AREA WIDE F&F plan
which is 45.00 for 1000 minutes up to 1200 after 1200 is .04c a mn which is less then 5.00 for 100

hellfire666

Aug 12, 2005, 2:29 PM
that's why they were just examples. i don't know what plans sprint has and it easier to compare apples to apples instead for apples to oranges.

So now that you know do a real comparision
...
hellfire666

Aug 12, 2005, 3:35 PM
there has already been 2 examples. but i can give you a really comparison.

cingular cust 900 min for 59.99
sprint cust 700 min for 50.00

month 1 both use 400 minutes

cingular 59.99 bank 500
sprint 50.00 bank

month 2 same again

cingular 119.99 bank 1000
sprint 100.00 bank

month 3 both go over 900 minutes

cingular 179.97 bank 100
sprint 195.00

in this scenario rollover wins
in others that have been post F&F wins
we really can't say which is better
their both great deals

Aug 12, 2005, 3:42 PM
yeah they are but remember people it all depends on the USER...one reason I don't like Rollover is to me it's pointless to pay for a plan that gives me more mins that I will use...the think I like about F&F is I get a plan that give me the mins that I "NEED" and if one or two mons I use more mins i know i'm not going to pay any crazy overages...that's where one would save money.... i'm not paying for more than I need every month... just when I do need them!!!!!
...
hellfire666

Aug 12, 2005, 3:50 PM
and the same applies to rollover. we don't put customers on plan that give too many minutes. we find plan that will suit thier need. rollover just like F&F is a cushion in case you happen to go over.

question about F&F. it just came to me.
say i go over my plan by 10 minutes am i gonna pay the full 5.00 since i'm not using the full 100. i could also start a whole new discussion with rollover on that one 😁 but lets not.

Aug 13, 2005, 7:13 AM
Yes sir because you are actually paying for a "Bucket" of minutes...That why we call it a TIER plan because every 100/200 mins over the allotment is a step or a tier

Most of the time you phone will say "no service" so therefor you wont have the problem of going over your minutes.

Argument solved 😉
