Wow, what a relief - not that much will change with AT&T replacing Cingular in name only, but at least I'll being to deal with businesses without hearing "Y'know, I wish you guys had stayed AT&T, they were so much better..."
Alas, now we'll have to go through that whole rebranding crap again.

Damn, Stan Sigman sent out a refutation of that. In some ways, I'm not surprized - Cingular's reputaion isn't great, and changing the name to AT&T would improve rep, but it would be a LOT of money. I agree with Springaf - about 2 years from now, they'll switch back to Blue.

Alas, no link, just an internal email. Basically, he said that they're not going to go back on all the efforts made to consolidate the companies, and he rather politely said that Mr. Whiteacre didn't know what he was talking about. "Cingular has been, is, and will remain a national brand" is what the email said, and that despite the fact that "AT&T" (formerly SBC) and BellSouth would still sell wireless service under their names, Cingular would not be going anywhere.
Still, I don't doubt that it'd be a good idea to revive the name. I suspect that in the not-too-distant future, AT&T will try to acquire Bell South, and when the old AT&T is reunited, Cingular will be rebranded. Just speculation, though.
