Tower usage
AtmanFeb 20, 2009, 10:10 PM
In our area there is fair/poor coverage. We can use our phones in part of our home but not the back part. Our church is 1/2 mile away...we can use them in the parking lot but not inside. Same where my wife works...can use outside but not inside. When I asked about this, they said alltel guarantees coverage but that doesn't count inside buildings. The only other carrier is US Cellular. I'm not a fan of theirs for other reasons.....
Anyway (sorry so long)......
[These are the only two cellular companies available to us.]
Verizon can use/bounce off of the uscellular towers whereas alltel cannot. Again, this is what we have been told.
Now that verizon has alltel will our phones start bouncing/using uscellular's towers? If so whe...

Hard to give an informed response without a little definition to "our area" - city, state???

Near Aurora NC.
Thanks for the response.

Aurora looks to be in an area that Alltel customers will be converted to Verizon - and once that's done, you'll still be using the same towers as you do now.

Thank you for your response again,
That is part of the confusion.... After the conversion if we would still be using the same towers we do now, then we would be getting a really bad deal. That would mean that Verizon was deliberately blocking our signals from using the uscellular towers.
Or will there be some magical time and our current phones will simply start using the other towers...???
Also Verizon will be more expensive than Alltel. Their discount only applies to the primary line...not all of the phones on the plan (3)

once they completely merge it will be based of the PRL that is in your phone. So if they issue alltel phones the same PRL as Verizon phones then if verizon lets them use USCC towers then so will you with your alltel phone.
...
yea, pretty much what he is saying is when the Verizon merge is complete, dial *228, press SEND, then click option 2 and it will update your PRL (Prefered Roaming List) so you can access USCC network if you need to.

Hey, Thanks very much for your response. I guess we'll just wait and see.... I wonder if our bill will go up no that Verizon will be taking over.......Another wait and see.....
Be Blessed!

It won't change as long as you are in contract and on a alltel plan. Now if you decide to switch to a verizon plan it may but last time I looked they were about the same.
