Dissapointed with ALLTEL buying ATT Wireless in OKC

I am more than disappointed to know that ALLTEL has purchased ATT wireless in OKC and possibly other areas.

The FCC unfortunately set regulations that Cingular could not purchase ATT in this market. I'm sure ALLTEL is a good company but I did NOT get the choice to go with ALLTEL or switch to the carrier of my choice. Now that ALLTEL has my contract They are going to force me to pay a $175 Early Termination Fee to leave their company. I just don't see this fair to the customers. Thank you,
I signed and filed a complaint with the FCC.

FCC Complaint confirmation number: FORM475: 05-
W10657076

I am disappointed with the decision that the FCC made in regard to the AT&T Wireless and Cingular Wireless merger in the state of Oklahoma. I have been a very happy customer of AT&T Wireless for many years. The FCC made the decision to switch me to Alltel Wireless without my permission.

I have never had a single complaint about quality of service that I received from AT&T Wireless. The quality of service includes the friendly customer service representatives they employed. Now that we are in the process of switching to Alltel, problems are already happening.

My plan with AT&T Wireless never charged me long distanc...

If you are a GSM custoemr call 866-787-8826 and they will be able to help you. But as for the "getting out of the contracts and switching to Cingular" that was decided as per the FCC/DOJ. I'm sorry to tell you, but the petition will not accomplish anything.

I can tell you that the "transition" support is being handled by Cingular reps, thus some of the attitude issues (every once in a while one will slip up and say "Cingular" instead of "the wireless call center"). I understand your problems and see where you are coming from (the GSM service in Stillwater is getting VERY sketchy) but it will pan out in the long run.

actually, gsm is a digital technology. not debating you are having issues w/ the transition. however, you are wrong in stating that gsm and digital cellular service are different.

ATT Wireless sold your contract to Alltel. Alltel has the right to change anything they want to your service and/or agreement. If anything you should be upset with ATT for selling it. In the SFL market the ETF is $200 so your lucky in that respect if you decide to cancel...

If your rate has changed that is a breach of contract, period. They cannot change your rate plan w/o allowing you to cancel. File a complaint with the regulatory body in your state (Public Utilities Commission). The FCC does not supercede states rights in those matters.

From what I've heard (this is not fact yet, just speculation) ATTWS did sell it's customers in Oklahoma City to Alltel. Your contract is with ATTWS so if you cancel before August 1 you will be facing the ETF. When Alltel gets all the customers into their billing system (which is scheduled to be done by August 1) then you will need to go in and get a new handset. Accepting the handset you are agreeing to a contract of service with Alltel. Rumor has it that if you go into the local store and make sure your name is in their billing system just don't accept the new handset. Go to T-Mobile or Cingular and port your number. There shouldn't be any ETF because your contract was not with Alltel. From what I heard they didn't buy the contracts, just t...
