E71 - Locked v. Unlocked
I am an old guy so bear with me. I need to get a phone with email, calendar, contacts that links with my Exchange Server. I am looking strongly at the Nokia E71. It appears that merely by adding roadsynch software that everything should link nicely. I was ready to buy yesterday and then the guy at Bestbuy added in the possibility of an unlocked phone. I understand there are advantages but trying to figure out if they apply to me. Also, any disadvantages? I do not travel abroad much so that's not an issue for me. I just don't know what it really means to be unlocked though? Can I not use Google maps on a locked phone but I can on an unlocked phone? Any help with advantages, disadvantages, thoughts, etc... would be appreciated. Thank you in a...

unlocked generally refer's to sim unlocked. which means that you can use the phone on any other carrier that uses gsm, which this phone is for. what you need is unbranded, which means that the phone has not been touched and disabled with the carrier software. the data price for an unbranded phone is cheaper too, the carrier does not have the imei number and therfore has no idea what phone you have and will default to the 15$ dollar plan. it's pretty cool. that is why i use nokia phones. now that att carries this model, i do not know if you can still get an unbranded e-71. probably if you order direct from nokia. just call them and ask. obviouslly if you are buying from bestbuy, the phone may be unlocked, but if it is unbranded, i would get i...

yea you can use your feature it is just mainly to travel out of the us thats were unlocked phones come in handy. so your fine with it being locked or unlocked. 😎
