Unlocked Version?

I read a number of you have purchased unlocked versions to use with cingular. I was wondering where I can find one (other than eBay) and how well the smartphone plan works...do I still get my email pushed like I would with T-Mobile's data plan that one would use with the Dash? Any advice would help. Thanks.

Not sure about these being unlocked but I know when people bring phones to T-Mobile unlocked usually they have issues with DATA! So I don't know that the push will work with this if it's unlocked and used with another carrier, or you could just get it and activate it from T-MOBILE 😁

From my discussion with sales reps it seems like this phone should be unlocked.
I say “seems” because I had to ask the question at the level they can understand: “If I go to Europe and purchase local pay-as-you-go SIM card, can I use it with this phone?” the answer was a definite ‘yes’ (I guess they found it in their internal database). I will get the unit today and validate within a couple of days.

I have an update on this issue: I got my unit today and tried to load Cingular SIM card in it, the message was: “Network is Locked” . It seems that T-mobile is locking specific network SIM cards (competitors) and non-competing cards should work (overseas for example). Can anybody validate this?

I can't validate it for this particular phone, but I can verify that other T-Mobile phones are locked if you try Cingular SIMs in them. A good friend of mine has a Samsung D807 and when he inserted my Cingular SIM, the same result happened - locked.

To avoid this hassle, I purposely bought an unlocked S620 and it works perfectly with my Cingular service. It also lacks the ugly service provider logo on the unit.

I believe all US operators lock phones to thier network...as for no us availablilty perhaps there is some other way the phone discerns between US and non US sims.
